This animal was rescued as part of our ongoing efforts to support communities affected by the recent Central Texas flooding. With local shelters overwhelmed -- many already at capacity before the storms hit -- we stepped in to help reduce overcrowding. By bringing animals like this one into our program, we helped free up critical space so that pets displaced by floods could be held safely and reunited with their families. Penny the Boxer mix is a lovely lady who majored in obedience and graduated with dual degrees in sweetness and fun. Having been rescued from the flood zone near Kerrville, Penny is a lucky dog. Whoever adopts her will also be very fortunate. Why? Because Penny is not just gentle and devoted but also knows numerous commands, is house trained and walks perfectly on a leash. Penny is super affectionate as well, and likes to sit next to her person when hanging out, or follow her person from room to room. After only a minute with her new foster, Penny glued herself to him, happy to receive pets and love. In fact Penny's loyal and energetic nature is typical of Boxers, as is her dark muzzle and short, orangish-brown fur. Most boxers are playful and fond of children. Penny is no exception. Among her favorite things are car rides, where Penny behaves beautifully, neighborhood walks and being pulled in her wheeled doggie mobile behind her foster dad's bike. Ah, the breeze flapping her ears! Yes, Penny is an ideal pup to take places. She does well at outdoor restaurants and bars as long as they aren't seriously noisy. Farmers' Market at The Pearl? Perfect. Dog parks are less Penny's jam because she stays close to her person and doesn't engage with the other canines. Penny isn't dog aggressive, but may be dog selective about which animals she likes nearby. Although heartworm positive, Penny is receiving treatment paid for by Footbridge, meaning that neither the treatment itself, nor the cost, would be an adopter's responsibility. So if you're interested in turning Penny's tale from tragic to terrific, make an appointment to meet her today!
