My story

Meet Coko Hi, I'm Coko Pekingese Poodle | Young | Male | Small About Me The first thing you notice when you meet Coko is he’s as friendly as he is cute! After a month of caring for him, his foster mom says his wonderful social skills and happy nature are two of his best assets. Coko’s adapted easily to his foster home with multiple dogs and human company almost 24/7. He thrives on companionship! Coko is very playful, and sweet-tempered dogs are his favorite buddies. In fact, his ideal home would offer a canine playmate about his size, or one who plays gently with small dogs. Coko loves to give and get affection and when he plays with doggy friends, he will tumble and wrestle like a puppy. He’s kind of klutzy like a puppy too. He loves to play chase in his fenced yard but in this extreme heat, prefers the air conditioned inside. He never loses his temper but is so fun-loving that he sometimes needs a crate-break to give himself and everyone else a rest! Coko is truly crate-trained in that he will enter his crate voluntarily to nap. He gets plenty of exercise and stimulation throughout the day, so when enticed with a treat, he happily settles down in the crate. He’s also used to being fed in his crate so positive experiences are the rule. Coko’s house training is still a work in progress. He does occasionally have pee accidents a few times a week, so staying in a crate when he can’t be watched is advisable. Another option would be belly bands until he is completely trained. You must monitor him outside to make sure he’s “gone” before he comes inside. (It seems only to be a problem with urination — Coko has never defecated in his foster mom’s house). Coko loves to be cuddled and will drop at your feet for belly rubs. He will play with his tiny tennis ball, dropping it at the top of stairs to chase the bouncing ball. He’ll also play fetch quite well. He’s a clever little guy and is always looking for ways to entertain himself. Coko does have a mischievous streak and may borrow things that are at chair height but he doesn’t usually chew them, just relocates them. Coko has travelled happily in a car for at least an hour. Generally, Coko is not barky or yappy but he does have some interesting vocalizations at times. Occasionally, something he observes in the neighborhood will bring out the watch dog in him. Coko does have higher grooming needs than the average dog although he seems to shed very little. His coat is soft and very fine, like cotton wool. Coko’s grooming needs will include: ? bi-monthly professional grooming and trimming for his bright-white, super-soft, coat ? monthly baths and nail trims ? daily cleaning of eyes and mouth area to prevent staining ? daily brushing to prevent mats Coko has a pronounced underbite which is not a health problem but means his chin is usually wet from immersive drinking. Coko enjoys neighborhood walks, he just loves all the sights and sounds! Due to his short snout and flat face, strenuous or extended exercise isn’t advised, and he needs to be carefully limited on his activities on hot days. He’s delighted to curl up with you on the couch. A gentle soul, Coko was used to the company of very kind children in his last home but should be supervised to ensure he’s treated gently. Coko’s manners are generally very good but he does need training on basic commands like come, sit and stay. It could be said that he has an endearing stubborn streak. Luckily, Coko’s very food-motivated! If you would treasure this loving young dog and can commit to providing a forever-home where his health and happiness are priorities, please complete an application for Coko!
