My story

Barley is an incredibly cute ball of cottony fur that climbs into your heart (and lap) with a wag and a kiss. What isn't clear in these shelter photos is how truly beautiful this tiny dog is (inside and out) with his stunning, soft as cotton non-shedding coat and sweet demeanor. Barley has the cutest face ever with eyes that light up when he feels safe and loved. You just want to hug this little cutie-pie close and let him know it will all be OK. When Barley arrived at the heartbreaking shelter, personnel agreed that he was an irresistible little guy with a kind and loving personality. They marveled at his great temperament and the bravery he showed after all he had been through in his life. Barley was relinquished to a local shelter after his human ran out of options. She was homeless and unable to feed herself much less her dog. It was a gift of love since she dearly loved Barley but recognized that he deserved much better than she could offer. At 5ish years old and a tiny 8 lbs (perfect for a snuggly little lap dog), Barley is a great size and weight to accompany his family just about everywhere a well-behaved little dog is welcome. A neighborhood walk or an afternoon spent in the Colorado mountains would speak to this little guy's social nature and love of the outdoors. Barley is every bit the silly little guy...so much fun and absolutely loves his time and interaction with his favorite people (once he's comfortable in his environment).. It's natural for this little guy to express himself with a wagging tail and excited kisses of love. His joy knows no end and his love is all about his beloved family. At this point in Barley's development, while frightened from his experiences, he loves virtually everyone.. We want to nurture this positive vision of the world by matching Barley to a family that expresses their devotion for him in many different ways. We feel that Barley would be most comfortable with an adult family or one with older kids where voices are softer and the energy is calmer. We also understand that Barley will be happiest and most fulfilled with either retirees, an adult family that spends lots of time at home or those that work from a home-based office. This little guy will thrive with the time and attention that this lifestyle brings. Barley's new family needs to have the motivation, energy and open heart for a tiny rescue dog. He will require behavioral guidance and tons of love to nurture a positive attitude about the world. In return Barley will be a loyal and loving best friend and the greatest lap dog ever. When this adorable pup falls in love, he falls hard. He gives 100% of himself to his relationships with both his people and his canine companions. Since Barley is just a young dog, he's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show him the way. He has all the potential in the world to be an awesome adult companion - Barley will form firm bonds with his family and learn positive socialization skills through virtual or in-person positive reinforcement / force-free obedience classes. These classes will make a profound difference in a dog's's ultimate behavior and in his relationship and bonding with his people. It does take time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior. Farfel's Rescue feel very strongly that every dog deserves the opportunity for formal, positive reinforcement / force-free training classes. We therefore aren't willing to adopt Barley out to a home that doesn't choose to offer him this training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement trainers in your area. Barley will be up to date on his vetting and vaccinations to support Farfel's commitment to adopting out only healthy dogs. He has also been neutered to support our vision of a euthanasia - free future in the canine population. Barley will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Saturday 7/26/2025. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If you're interested in this extremely sweet, cuddly and fun-loving best friend, please fill out our application form completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Barley, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Barley, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
