Due to his medical history and dietary needs, adopters must have a veterinarian and be able to continue his prescription diet. Gus will not be placed on a first-come, first-served basis. We’re looking for the right match—someone committed to his long-term health and ongoing veterinary care. Say hello to Gus, a gorgeous Maine Coon who’s been enjoying life in foster care and is now ready to find his next home! Gus can be a little nervous around new people, but once he knows you, he’s all in. He’ll greet you at the door like an old friend and show off his charming personality. He’s also very smart—he can do tricks like shake hands, give a high five, and even a fist bump (especially if treats are involved!). This gentle boy loves his people deeply and is looking for a home where he can build that special bond at his own pace. If you’re patient, kind, and treat-savvy, Gus just might be your perfect match. Ready to earn a high five from your new best friend? Change is hard for this cat. This cat will be very nervous when you first bring them home. You will need to set up a room with a litter box, food, and water. It will take days for this cat to become comfortable and confident in the new home. This cat will be going home with a behavior plan that will need to be followed in order for everyone to transition successfully. Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available cats in the shelter. (Cats in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the cat first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a cat for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours. **Holds are not available on Saturdays and during adoption events. -------------------------------------------- All cat adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies vaccine -current distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -FeLV/FIV blood test -microchip implanted & registered to the adopter -treatment of fleas/ticks/ear mites -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days after adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us.
