Meet Cleatus — a big-hearted boy who’s been patiently waiting for his next chapter. He came to us in March 2024 as part of a case and has been a quiet presence at the shelter ever since.Cleatus is deaf but don’t let his lack of hearing fool you — Cleatus `feels` everything. He lights up when he sees people, and he’s never met a human he didn’t like. Whether it’s popping into the staff offices for a quick hello or settling in for a solid nap break, Cleatus makes himself at home wherever he goes. He’s mastered the art of office visits, couch loafing, and being an all-around lovable guy. His deafness doesn’t slow him down one bit — he watches closely, takes cues like a pro, and responds beautifully to kindness and consistency. Cleatus enjoys napping, hopping up on desks to look around and feel taller (he`s a short and stout kind of fella), and snacking with his favorite humans. He loves exploring outside, soaking up the sunshine, and going on adventures. He is very curious! Cleatus loves to learn about the world around him and better yet, he enjoys it even more when he has his person with him. Cleatus does attend dog playgroup here, but would prefer a home where he gets all the attention to himself. He is good with kids and would do best with little humans who are 10 years and older. Now that his case is resolved, Cleatus is finally ready to trade in his shelter suite for a real home. One with cozy corners, soft beds, and people who don’t mind being followed around by a sweet, floppy-eared shadow.Owning a deaf dog is of course different than owning a dog who can hear, but Cleatus makes learning how to support him fun, easy, and facinating; his view of the world is not like other dogs and his future family will need to learn a little bit about what it means to own a deaf dog, but that doesn`t make it harder to love him. Cleatus might not be able to hear you say the words `I love you,` but he sure can feel it. If you’re looking for a gentle soul who sees the world in his own special way — come meet Cleatus. He’s waited long enough. If this dog has been successful in our play groups it is not a guarantee that a dog will be social with other dogs in their home or in public settings. Dogs are individuals and have personality conflicts, just like us. Play groups do not guarantee that territorial or resource guarding issues will not surface in the home. While play groups do help us get to know the dog`s
