My story

Doug (about 8 months old as of June, 2025) is a spayed female black with white spots shorthaired kitten. Doug and her sisters were born to a stray cat in Grayslake who was picked up by animal control right around when they were weaned, leaving the kittens to fend for themselves when they were just barely old enough to survive without mama! Thankfully within about a week the girls were trapped and put into foster care but their harrowing ordeals left them much more weary than most kittens their age. Doug got her interesting name in part because she looked sturdy and was projecting masculine energy, and it stuck because it took a few weeks for her to let us hold her well enough to get a good luck to see she was not a male! With time and love she grew to be very affectionate and playful, even if she's still not the biggest fan of being held. She's a chatty little weirdo who showers her favorite people with affection- don't get a Doug if you don't want her following you around throwing herself against you! Doug is great with other cats, and because she is so goofy and playful we think she'd do best in a home with another young playful cat she can play with, especially her sister Paloma. She also gets along well with dogs, but the dogs they live with have not taught them respect, so she would need to live with a cat-experienced dog who won't be offended if a silly cat goes diving into their food dish. She doesn't have experience living with little kids but would probably have a lot of fun playing with older kids.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Doug, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
