Mangonata

My story

My foster writes:July 18:Mangonata is a handsome and adorable cat! He is an esteemed orange gentleman with white mustache, vest and socks--which all make him look even cuter. Despite his shyness at first, he loves getting pets and chin scratches while making air biscuits once he's comfortable around you. Wand toys and treats of all types are the fastest way to his heart. He'll take some time getting adjusted to the environment and spends a lot of time in his hiding spot during the day but he becomes energized at night. He's also very well behaved; used the litter box right away and never had any accidents, doesn't knock things off (as of now), eats all his food, and drinks lots of water. He is an orange after all though--full of silliness and entertainment that will make any adopters happy cat parents.Update as of Aug 9:It's been 6 weeks since Mangonata has been with us. He totally transformed into a sweet and playful cat. He loves playing with toys! When we throw a ball, he runs after it and shows off his dribbling skills though doesn't bring the back back (Are there any cats that do?). Mangonata still loves treats of all types! He recently became a food puzzle master efficiently using his paws. He's generally a quiet cat that doesn't meow much. Even if his breakfast isn't served on time, he sits by the door and stares at us. When we feed him, he prefers getting head scratches and kisses first before eating. During the day, he likes to sit on the cat tree to sunbathe, nap and watch the birds through the window. At night he likes to spend time on the couch watching TV with us, resting and dreaming of his loving forever home.What my friends at ACC say about me:My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet!I have lived with cats in my previous home.I have potential behavior challenges that staff will address with you when you meet me.I'm an independent kitty who likes to do my own thing.I am looking for a home with a patient person.I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace.I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home.Mangonata is an adult cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. He is apprehensive of people and while showing no aggressive behaviors, he tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Please be mindful that older cats will require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people, we recommend offering high value treats and food to help build a positive association to humans. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
