My story

Meet Laverne! This big girl is extremely sweet, extremely snuggly, and extremely adorable. Laverne was found wandering the second-floor hallway of an apartment complex, alone and confused, as people came and went around her ~ doors opening and closing, voices in the distance ~ but no one stopped, no one bent down, and no one claimed the little dog who had clearly once belonged to someone. By the time she was brought into the shelter, it was already clear that she’d been left behind… not in a dramatic or violent way, but in the slow, invisible way that neglect creeps in over time. The way food replaces affection. The way vet visits stop. The way a once-loved dog becomes background noise, and then a burden, and then simply… gone. Now that she's a Miri's girl, we are watching her personality blossom. She LOVES snuggles and attention. She's blind but knows love instantly - her tail starts wagging the minute you start petting her and doesn't stop. She also loves belly rubs, which is no small undertaking given the size of her belly! We're helping her start to lose weight - she was appalled to learn that dinner is not a bottomless event, but she is all-in on her excerise plan. She absolutely shreds her Fitbit goals every day, speed-walking around the yard like she has somewhere very important to be (she doesn't). Laverne is currently being treated for Cushing’s disease, a condition in senior dogs that’s easily managed with ongoing daily meds and vet care. She is looking for someone who loves cuddling, has a big fenced in yard to explore, and will help her stick to her diet and fitness regime. While she waits for her forever family to find her, Laverne is nibbling her dainty little meals, dreaming of lasagna, and preparing for her grand post-diet glow-up.
