Hi, I’m Cleo! I was adopted when I was just 3 months and 15 days old, and ever since, I’ve had a whole lot of love to give — especially to my human and dog friends! I’m a playful, energetic girl who lives for a good game of fetch (fair warning: I’ll bring the ball back, but I might not let it go!). I love wrestling with dog buddies, acting as the “referee” when others are playing, and sharing my toys with humans. I take playtime very seriously — sometimes I get so excited chasing the ball that I forget to slow down (I’ve had a few bumps and bruises, but it’s worth it every time!). I’m very respectful in the home. I don’t chew on furniture, clothes, or pillows, and I never try to climb things I shouldn’t. When I’m alone, I’m happy to curl up in my big Kirkland bed with my toys and wait patiently until you come back — but don’t worry, I’ll still keep an eye on the house while you're gone! A few things you should know about me: Quick movements can make me nervous — especially from tiny humans. They move fast, make unpredictable noises, and honestly, I’m still trying to figure out if they’re safe or not. Because of this, I’d do best in a home without small children. I can also be a little wary of strangers who approach me too quickly. If I feel uncomfortable, I’ll let you know with a low growl — but I just need time to feel safe. The best way to become my friend? Let me come to you first, ignore me for a bit, and let me sniff — I promise I’ll be bringing you all of my toys before you know it. I go to playcare at Arlington Heights Animal Hospital, and I love it there! I know the staff so well now that I don’t even need to do my “scary” growl anymore. (I’ve even earned a reputation as a bit of a flirt — I especially like hanging out with the male staff members!) When new people try to handle me too quickly, like putting on my collar before we’ve become friends, I still get nervous. I just need time, patience, and a gentle approach. Things that make me happiest? Oh, so many! Baths (I LOVE water!), chasing it with my paws and mouth, being wrapped in towels afterward, cozy naps while you’re working, following you around the house, and being near someone I trust. Walks are super exciting — maybe too exciting! I get a little distracted and pull on the leash because I want to see everything right now! I’d love help learning how to slow down and enjoy the journey. I’ve never lived with another dog, but I think I’d really like having a sibling — someone to play with when my humans are busy and to help me feel a little more confident. One of my favorite memories is taking a road trip from DFW to Baton Rouge! My parents put my bed in the backseat, and I got to snooze in between watching the world go by. When we arrived, I was nervous at first, but once I realized I had a huge yard to sprint around in, I was thrilled! New places can be a little scary, but with time and a calm, reassuring human, I settle in just fine. In a nutshell? I’m a sweet, silly, playful girl with a heart full of love — and just a bit of anxiety. I’m still learning about the world, and I need a patient, understanding family to help me feel safe as I grow. If you’ve got a calm home, love to play, and are ready to be my safe space, I promise I’ll give you all the toys and tail wags you could ever want. Cleo is participating in The Love Pit's iRehome program, so ongoing care and custody are provided by their foster. All behavior and medical information is provided by their caretaker, and TLP encourages all adopters to verify the information with their caretaker prior to adoption.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Cleo, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
