My story

Twilight - Insight from her foster home:  Twilight responds well to her name and has a great training base—so far, she knows “sit”, “down”, “touch”, “quiet” (for those early morning arooos), and “leave it”. She’s learning “stay”, and “crate” and is making great progress.  She’s a very smart girl and figured out the dog door within a day. Not a barker, but she does the cutest “arooos” when she’s happy or excited. Our neighbors have dogs that bark, but she has not reacted to them. Fully house-trained to potty outdoors.  She’s great in a car and will easily settle down to nap. She’s shown no resource guarding or any food/toy aggression. We feed her at the same time as our male husky and, while we do monitor them while they eat, they respect each other’s space. In fact, Twilight’s preferred spot to eat her post-walk chew is next to her foster brother.  She’s a great walker and is learning to check in with us regularly, with treats and positive reinforcement as motivation. We walk her daily around a busy park and middle school and she’s shown no reactivity to people, other dogs, cars, bikes, scooters, or running kids. She may pause or try to pull towards dogs she wants to meet, but she greets them politely with sniffs and a play bow. She has a prey drive for small critters, so she’ll want to chase all the squirrels and birds. Her prey drive is not as strong towards cats. We can redirect her attention when she sees them, but she would probably do best in a home without a cat.   Twilight has moderate energy. She enjoys long walks (we walk around 2 miles a day) and being chased around the yard, but she settles down very nicely inside the house. She just wants to nap or chew on a toy next to you.  Loves squeaky toys, benebones, and other hard chew toys.  She likes to move stray items of clothing around the house, but the only things she’s shredded are her stuffed chipmunks. She’s shown no destructiveness towards furniture, shoes, or anything else in the house.   Twilight gets along great with her foster brother and dogs of all sizes. She is perceptive and can adjust her behavior based on how a dog reacts to her. If the dog wants to play, then she will absolutely play, but if a dog isn’t interested, she’ll leave them alone. We took her to a party where there were two small, nervous dogs and she gave them their space. She was also a great houseguest. No accidents or destruction; she just wanted to sniff and run around the yard and get pets from all the guests. She’s learning that “crate” means to go inside her crate. She takes a few minutes to settle, but once she does, she’ll rest quietly or occupy herself with toys/treats. Her ideal home would be with a family who can take her on daily walks and with a yard that she can run around in. She would also love to have a doggie sibling to wrestle and play chase with.        September 15, 2025, 10:33 pm
