My story

Say hello to Francis, a stunning medium-haired orange tabby with a gentle gaze. She came to our shelter at the start of July with the help of a local, grassroots rescue organization that wanted to make sure she had every chance at a safe and loving forever home. When she arrived, Francis was in need of some TLC. She was treated for an intestinal parasite—likely contracted by drinking contaminated water such as out of puddles, grooming herself after contact with contaminated surfaces, or ingesting contaminated soil. She also needed treatment for a common feline respiratory infection. Thanks to medical care and a cozy space to rest, she’s now healthy, thriving and ready to begin her next chapter. But what truly makes Francis stand out? * She’s rare in more ways than one. Did you know that only about 1 in 5 orange tabby cats are female, due to the genetics behind orange fur color? * Even more unusual? Her medium-length coat, which adds to her striking, golden look and gives her a touch of elegance. She’s like a ray of sunshine in feline form! Francis is in need of and adopter committed to brushing her regularly to keep her beautiful coat tangle-free and soft. And if you're wondering about her name: the name Francis comes from the Latin Franciscus, meaning “free one.” It's a name with roots in both strength and serenity—perfect for a resilient little cat who's ready to embrace a life of love, comfort and freedom within the security of a forever home. Come meet Francis and see for yourself what makes her such a rare and beautiful find. She may be one in a million, but she could be your one and only. The shelter is open Tuesdays through Fridays 3:30-6:30pm AND Saturdays & Sundays 1pm-4pm. No appointments are needed during those times.
