** $590 in pledges for the rescue that pulls ** **New video 8/15!** Esco ACCT-A-225852 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Esco must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER, FOSTER, or ADOPTER by Sunday, August 17th, 2025 at 10AM. Should Esco’s medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Esco is a joyful, spirited senior who has the heart (and energy!) of a much younger pup. This handsome guy recently lost his longtime home through no fault of his own—his loving owner had to care for her ill husband and could no longer give Esco the time he deserves. Now, he’s ready to find his next chapter, whether that’s through foster, rescue, or adoption. At the shelter, Esco greets everyone with a wagging tail, soft eyes, and a big smile. He’s easy to leash, loves getting outside, and does his business right away. On walks, he starts out excited but quickly settles into a comfortable pace, making him a great fit for someone who enjoys the outdoors. Esco recently joined a volunteer for a day trip to the Wissahickon, where he strolled politely past people, kids, bikes, and dogs, dipped his paws in the water, and proved to be the perfect adventure buddy. He rides beautifully in the car and is happy to just relax with you when the outing’s done. In playgroups, Esco has shown good dog manners and a friendly interest in others. He’s playful and silly—sometimes flopping over for belly rubs or bouncing around with a toy—but he’s also respectful and easy to handle. He knows a few commands, is crate trained, and thrives on human attention (and the occasional snack). Esco’s ideal home would be one that can match his playful energy, provide plenty of enrichment and exercise, and give him the love and structure he’s used to. He’d be thrilled to join you for hikes, long walks, or just hanging out on a comfy couch. Come meet this lovable, happy-go-lucky “puppy in a senior’s body” at ACCT Philly—he’s ready to be your best friend and adventure partner! Per day trip 7/27: We took Esco out today and had a blast! We were told he was high energy, but aside from some initial excitement when we first left the building, he settled in great. In our experience, once he got his initial excitement out, he was much more medium energy while still keeping a great young pup pace. With adequate enrichment and exercise, I’d say any outdoorsy lifestyle adopter would have no problem handling him. He pretty quickly picked up on leash pressure when walking too fast. It didn’t take long for him to keep more of a pace with us while stopping periodically to sniff and potty. He seems very house trained! He was an absolute joy to walk and he’d love to tag along for hikes or long walks. Esco was a happy boy that smiled all day long. He was up for an adventure through the Wissahickon and seemed to thoroughly enjoy himself. He gave us some quick check ins and nicely stopped anytime we needed to refuel. Esco didn’t make a peep out on the trails. He was very respectful of his surroundings. He was nonreactive to people, children and bicycles passing us. We passed many dogs and he was great with them too. Interested in a friendly way, but not overly so and pretty easy to redirect. He was sure to give passerby’s a smile when he saw them. Esco took a dip in the water and really seemed to enjoy soaking his belly. He also seemed to really love the car and settled in nicely the entire drive back to Acct. A happy little ham! Per staff 7/27/25: very silly guy! High energy, pulls hard on the leash but gave great greetings to people he passed. Allowed all over body handling. Wile trying to harness he laid on his back, solicited attention showed his belly and jumped up on me for attention. Got a toy that he played with and loved but was okay with me taking the toy. He may be a senior but he has such spunk for an 8 year old a literal 2 yr old in a 8 year old body Playgroup 7/24/25: Steerable w/ water, good gate greeting, tail wags, interested, SM, submissive to female at times, doesn't listen to correction Volunteer 7/22/25: Esco was a very easy dog to handle. He came out of his kennel easily, pulled mildly on the leash, and did his business immediately outside. He didn’t pay much attention to his handler but enjoyed being scratched and pet when he occasionally stopped by to check in. He wasn’t very interested in treats but would get excited about toys and got a little jumpy at times. Overall super easy to walk. Per volunteer 7/21/25: This happy-go-lucky pup is all heart and high energy. Esco recently lost his longtime home through no fault of his own, his former person loved him dearly but could no longer care for him. Friendly with people - especially when snacks are involved, Esco loves being outside, walks well on leash, and didn’t want his stroll to end. He knows some basic commands, is crate trained, and has a soft spot for snacks and a cozy spot to nap, preferably your couch. Esco is looking for a home that can match his playful energy and give him the structure and love he’s used to. Come meet this fella at ACCT Philly, open daily from 10 am to 6 pm 07/21/2025 volunteer notes: Went out on the leash well. Was very happy to be out and walking around.
