My story

Cooper is urgently looking for a foster or foster-to-adopt home at this time, as he has been in boarding since March. Make a tax-deductible donation towards his boarding costs at https://adoptadobe.com/donate/. Meet Cooper! Breed: Doberman Age: 2 years Location: Edmonton, AB Personality: Cooper is a big, derpy boy without a lot of training. We believe he was imported from Russia as he has a Russian microchip. He can be barrier reactive and is very strong, but is a friendly guy who needs stability and consistency. He has also shown resource guarding behavior towards humans, but has not escalated beyond barking and growling. He needs a confident and experienced handler who can respect his body language and help him overcome this. We have seen that some of his behaviors seem to resolve after he settles in somewhere, so we are hoping someone will give him the chance he deserves. Likes: Treats! "Waving" with his front feet, running and playing fetch, playing in the pool! Dislikes: Not getting enough exercise tends to frustrate him and bring out his barrier reactivity which is frustration-based. Ideal Home:  Cooper has been in boarding since March, so we don't know what he needs in a home yet. A quiet home with a fenced yard is a must as this time. He is very food motivated, and is a quick learner. He follows his nose a lot, and we believe he is from working lines and that he would excel in a home who will do things like tracking and obedience with him   ‍‍‍ Family: So far we know that Cooper is okay with large dogs if introduced OFF LEASH. We would prefer he goes to a home with a large female dog, if any. We do not know how he is with cats, but he has shown pretty intense focus around small dogs, so he likely shouldn't go to a home with cats or small dogs. He has met older kids, but needs to go to an adult only home because of his guarding behavior. Health: Cooper has a hard time keeping weight on in the kennel, so he needs to gain a few pounds. He tends to get an upset stomach when he is really stressed. He may have entropian in one of his eyes, but this will be fixed by the rescue before adoption. However, we need to have him settled in a foster home before this can happen. Adoption Fee: $500 Cooper has been neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. All adopters must agree not to use any punitive training methods. Apply to foster or adopt Cooper by submitting our adoption application at https://adoptadobe.com/adoption-application/. Please note that we do not ship dogs and all adoptions require a home visit and meet and greet prior to finalization. Donate to Cooper’s care at https://adoptadobe.com/donate/. ##2419029##
