My story

A volunteer writes:Purple is no cartoon(Eek and the Cheshire cat) character but a super sweet and friendly cat surrendered into our care as her family moved abroad. She comes with lovely comments and we can confirm that she is a true lapcat! Purple was a bit shaken up upon arrival at the care center(she did very well with the veterinary team though) but she is a smart and intuitive pet who understood quickly that we meant well. Spending time with Purple brings peace in a very busy day at the shelter. She is all cuddles and kisses...One does not have to worry to be hissed at or swatted at. All what she wants is love and closeness with her visitor. Still, we all know that to make friends, a gentle approach is always needed! Purple did live with children but not cats or dogs. Purple did very well on her behavior evaluation, is already spayed and could go home today with her new family. She is a very sweet cat who will make a super loving and loyal four legged companion for years to come. Come and meet Purple very soon at the Manhattan Care Center.Purple has significantly improved since her first assessment. She was in the cubby, appearing calm and curious, and stuck her head out to sniff treats, then leaned in for cheek rubs while her head was outside of the cubby. Then, when pet inside the cubby, she leaned in more for cheek rubs and raised her rear for lower back petting. She was calm during a partial pick-up, and after the door was shut, she came out onto the shelf for treats and then allowed and enjoyed petting there. Prior to closing the kennel door, she could not be coaxed out of the cubby. Purple interacts with the observer, solicits & appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. No known history of behavioral problems. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for cat parents with either an average amount of cat experience or demonstrate a basic understanding of typical cat behavior.I lived with children in my previous home.I would do best in a home without very tiny humans, although I could be open to older human children once I meet them.I'm an independent kitty who likes to do my own thing.I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace.Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy!I am a cat that is in need of a lap! I can't wait to be your new lap cat.I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming, but when it's just you and me and some peace and quiet you'll see what a love bug I am. Primary Color: Tabby Weight: 10.7 Age: 6yrs 0mths 2wks
