Looking for a foster to adopt situation! Lou-Lou is estimated to be 1.5- 2 years old and aprox 12-15 lbs full grown. She is one of 7 dogs that came to rescue from a much larger hoarding case. Unaltered dogs allowed to have litter after litter until there were too many to take care of and not enough people to give the time and attention to properly socialize. Lou-Lou came with 3 puppies in tow. She has since finished nursing the puppies, spayed and working on her social skills. She is building confidence with each day as she experiences many common experiences for possibly the first time. A life outside with no prevention against parasites. She was spayed and caught up on vaccinations, but sadly tested positive for heartworms. She is young and we caught it early, but she will need to undergo treatment before she should be adopted. The first 60 days of heartworm treatment is easy. One pill twice a day for 30 days. And no strenuous activity (long walks, hiking, etc) followed by 30 days of letting the meds do thier job... The first 60 days is a great time to get to know Lou-Lou , spend some time getting to know her amazing personality and just enjoying her company. Day 60 is her first injection. She will feel gross, might have some discomfort. She will need crate rest and leash walking. No jumping, running or anything that might elevate her heart rate. This will continue for about 3-4 weeks and then on day 90 &91 she will get her next rounds of injections and start again with more crate rest and leash walking. It is important that her person/family spend some time with her during those first 60 days, to see what her normal is, so if during treatment something abnormal happens, they can recognize. She could start coughing, become lethargic, swelling, soreness, labored or rapid breathing, lack of appetite, and/or fever. She is crate trained, almost house trained but could use some work walking on leash. She is neutered , up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. when finished with treatment, her adoption fee will be $300, we have collected donations to cover her heartworm treatment. She will stay an Amazing Mutt foster dog until treatment has been completed incase there are any complications. She will need to placed on heartworm prevention (and continue for life).
