For Adoption: Teeter! Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. To apply for adoption and for more information on our process and requirements, visit our website at https://pounddog.ca/adoption-info/. Meet one of the most adorable puppies ever, Teeter. Teeter is a 3mth old Shih Tzu /Poodle mix puppy. He will be a smaller dog, weighting about 12-20 pounds. His coat is medium length, black and white silky soft. He is a low shedding dog, so you won’t see their hair lying around all your furniture all the time. It is a high maintenance grooming breed mix tho so will need regular brushing and grooming appointments around every 6 weeks. Shih-Poo’s are mixed breed dogs and therefore exhibit a spectrum of behaviours that are present in the breeds of their parents, however there are some behavioural characteristics that are very common that people should make note of. They have a tendency to be very social dogs that do much better with their people around and engaged with them more than not. If left alone for long periods of time regularly can develop depression, anxiety, and these can result in other destructive behaviours. Teeter was sadly born in a puppy mill and in the commercial breeding operations, there is no genetic testing of the breeding dogs or any importance put towards the health and welfare of the breeding dogs and birth defects are a common occurrence. Teeter was born without a preputial opening and as such he had no opening with which to urinate out of. He was deemed unsellable and was slated for disposal but this lucky pup found rescue instead! We have no idea how he made it as long as he did but thankfully his urine was able to drip out of his skin pores and not cause sepsis. Our vet team had never seen this before and he was quite the topic of conversation! Thankfully the fix was a relatively simple one and Teeter had surgery to give him an opening and now his urine flows as it should and he is a much happier pup. Teeter’s absolute favourite things in life is loving humans, being loved, and food and not necessarily in that order. Teeter is exactly what you would expect from a Shih-poo puppy; he is goofy, friendly, affectionate and so sweet. He’s a little fluff ball who wants to be the center of attention. He loves to be involved and often if I’m in the middle of something a little fluffy head will poke in just to check to see if I need any help, especially outside in the garden. If I'm sitting on the couch or chair he will use my leg as a scratching post wanting me to give him so hugs/kisses and then cuddles. Teeter has two modes: asleep, and pure playful and adventurous puppy! Teeter is a very smart dog and a quick learner, he is doing a good job with house training and sleeping in his crate. Though he is very young he is catching on to going to the slider door when he needs to go potty. He loves knowing he will get a treat after. His new humans will need to stay on top of his housetraining so he can continue with his progress. He will have naps in his crate during the day, but expect some complaining for the first few minutes . He does sleep most of the night, as long as he does his duties right before bed. Teeter would do fine in a house, condo or apartment. He will not need a lot of space since he will be a small dog. Just remember he will need a lot of outside potty breaks, so if in a high rise expect to go out on the half hour for the first bit. Teeter will be fine in a home with children 8 years and older, due to his sharp little teeth and that he is still nippy. He will be a good choice for first time dog owners as long as you research and know that Teeter’s breed will be suitable with your lifestyle. It will not be good if he is at home alone for longer than 4hr periods at this time. The more time he has to be out and about exploring will be better for his confidence. Teeter’s foster home has another small pup as well two older dogs. He would love to have a dog sibling that is well natured and small like him. He would also do well being the only dog in the home as long as he gets a lot of interaction and quality time with his people. Daily work is need on his physical and mental exercise. Even with him being a small dog, he still likes his daily small walks as it helps with his confidence. His new humans will need to dedicate time for this throughout the day as well take him to training classes. Right now his walks are short as he is a wee pup, but as he matures he will need multiple good, fast paced walks a day to be happy. He is also very smart and his new family needs to take full advantage of this and take him through to advanced levels of dog school. With his love of food and his high intelligence he will be super easy to train and will be a dog that needs the extra mental challenges of advanced classes. Teeter loves to run, play tug-a-war and chew on his toys/bones. He has no problem occupying himself with his toys. Other than our dogs Teeter has not had a chance to be social with other dogs, however he does a super job with polite introductions and manners. Teeter is a good puppy, but a puppy none the less and puppies are tiring and need constant support while they grow and navigate the world. Overall Teeter is the epitome of what you would expect of a puppy.. He is curious, sweet, fun, active and loyal, a companion animal through and through. Teeter is going to make a family VERY happy and will be a great addition to anyone who has a lot of time and love to give. We cannot wait to see Teeter in his forever home so that he can continue to give his whole heart to his humans.
