Klarna ACCT-A-225944 is a 2-year-old female dog who came in as a stray on 7/16. Finder noted: “Klarna is sweet with strangers and wants to snuggle. She is slightly interested in animals but wasn't playful with my dog. She is well-behaved on leash, with minor pulling.” Klarna is urgently in need of rescue placement due to her poor body condition. On 7/21 staff noted: "This dog has been observed to have shelter acquired upper respiratory infection (URI), or a "doggy cold". They have been started on medication, and will be monitored for resolution of the respiratory infection. They will need a veterinarian to examine them before they receive surgery, if they are not already altered. Plan TX: Start Doxycycline 100mg at 10mg/kg SID PO x 14 days” On 7/18 intake staff noted: "Did not place microchip as she was very, very wiggly. AD has a small wound, AU waxy, ear tips crusty. Teeth are mostly white with small amount of yellow staining. Tail tip is missing some fur. Bright, alert, responsive, friendly, very highly food motivated (only a very small amount of food was given). On 7/17 Doctor noted: "Refeeding protocol bloodwork, needs vet interpretation. Assessment Mild non-regenerative vs pre-regenerative anemia - r/o internal/external parasitism, malnutrition, +/other Basophilia - r/o parasitism vs other BUN elevation - suspect pre-renal (ie dehydration) Plan In house CBC/chem17/lytes: HCT 31%, basophils 170/ul, BUN 34 mg/dl Drontal plus PO Capstar given at intake, Barrier to be applied at check in Continue re-feeding protocol as scheduled. Recheck on 7/24.” On 7/16 staff noted: “P was noted on intake exam to have a very poor body condition. Any patient with a BCS of a 1 or 2 is eligible for a medical feeding treatment plan. Assessment: P has a BCS of a 1 or a 2 on the Purina body score scale. A low body score could indicate an increased risk of refeeding syndrome when provided access to an unregulated amount of food. P's current weight: 34lbs P's ideal weight: 45-50lbs A medical feeding plan is recommended to ensure a slow reintroduction to caloric intake. These meals should be provided and monitored by a medical team member until recheck with veterinarian.” On 7/16 staff noted: “Bright, alert, responsive, and slightly timid. Drank water and ate canned food readily, Normal stool noted later on in kennel. Mild dental calculus, no apparent oral masses or foreign bodies. No arrhythmia, no obvious murmur but couldn't r/o low grade; pulses strong and synchronous, MM pink and moist, CRT less than 2 sec, mild incr in skin turgor, likely from emaciation rather than dehydration. Suspect intact female, developed vulva and mammaries, probably has had pups at some point. Moderate flea burden, very minimal pressure sores on front limbs. Allowed all handling. Assessment -Emaciated, fleas, appears to be healthy otherwise.” Videos: Walk and roll with Klarna: https://youtube.com/shorts/Zw7846WLfHM?si=R8C_nE-iN23nf-Co Pets for Klarna: https://youtube.com/shorts/InXHP6YFjAc?si=tNLmSpbxo5RpQ4BX Playing with Klarna 1: https://youtube.com/shorts/RosvklIyzcg?si=WfXus_OQBCAP93ya Playing with Klarna 2: https://youtube.com/shorts/rPvbfnOA1Gs?si=WvWTlMRGHS5hjG0c Behavior On 7/18 Volunteer noted: "When I arrived at the kennel, Klarna was standing up on the kennel bars. She had soft eyes and a wagging tail. I opened the kennel door and she immediately tried to rush out. I closed the door just so my arm could fit through so I could leash her. She jumped right out. Klarna walks pretty well on leash, pulling only moderately at times. Outside she went pee shortly after we started the walk. Once we walked a bit, she rolled over onto the grass and rolled around. We went into the volunteer office. She greeted others with a loose, wiggly body. She searched around the room for food but we were unable to give her treats as she’s on a refeeding plan. She allowed pets all over and leaned into her handler while getting pets. She did some lip licking. She knows sit. We tried to play with Klarna. At first she only showed mild interest in the toy, she would sniff but not take possession. After some tossing, she started to briefly take possession and played a light game of fetch. She released the toy easily. When returning to her kennel, she put the breaks on right in front of the door. I tried to guide her with leash pressure but she didn’t budge. I took a step into the kennel and she followed. She tried to jump out again. I was able to close the door mostly and remove the leash. She continued to try to sneak through the opening of the kennel. Experienced gold due to attempts to bust out of kennel.” ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week.
