** $15 in pledges for the rescue that pulls ** Launch ACCT-A-226843 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Launch must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by THURSDAY, AUGUST 14TH at 10AM. Should Launch's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Launch is ready to blast off into his forever home! Found as a stray on July 25th, this handsome guy was initially overwhelmed and unsure of his surroundings. With a little time and patience, Launch has begun to warm up to the people he trusts, showing off a calm, steady nature and a growing fondness for treats, quiet walks, and a bit of sunshine. Launch is always ready for a stroll—he walks politely on leash most of the time, taking his time to explore every interesting scent. While he can be a bit aloof, Launch enjoys company and will happily hang out nearby, keeping you in sight as he soaks in the day. With the right match, this boy will make a loyal, steady companion. Launch would do best in an adult-only home with no cats, but he is open to meeting other dogs. Please bring all members of your household and any resident dogs along for a meet. Due to his length of stay, he is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter. I went back after a bit, and he was sitting looking out his kennel with relaxed body language. As I opened the door, he gave me mid-level loose tail wags, and I easily slipped the leash over his head. He likes to walk leisurely exploring all the smells he can find. We saw a cat and Launch froze and then started pulling towards it, however stopped when I applied some leash pressure. He gave a very low grumble, but then didn’t make any other noises and was easy to guide away. Did not notice a significant prey drive in this interaction. In the play yard he was quite low energy and had very neutral body language. He came to me when called and took treats very gently out of my hand. He gently sniffed around. He showed me that he knows sit and seems to be pretty treat motivated! Didn’t solicit much handling, was very comfortable in my presence with a neutral body. Went back into the shelter and his kennel with no issue! Per staff 8/9, playgroup: Good greetings, whining, not steerable, mounts immediately, does not correct. Per staff 8/8: Easy to walk, really sweet, loves treats. Per staff 8/5: Really good on walks. Per staff 7/30: Kennel Presentation: Launch was sitting at the front of his kennel with soft eyes. Once I opened the kennel door slightly he tried pushing out so I made a big loop, tossed some treats and threw a lasso. Leash Skills: Once secured he came right out and pulled moderately but wanted to sniff everything for extended periods of time. I had to use leash pressure often to get him to move from certain spots as he would sniff in one spot for a while. Sociability: Outside he did not interact with me at all. He avoided me, sniffing the ground/grass the whole time. I would call for him and he wouldn't even lift his head. He remained avoidant and aloof as I approached him and tried to direct his attention to me with treats and toys (which he ignored). I was able to handle him completely without issue. Return to Kennel: He did not want to return, pancaking at the front of his row so I used the harness to get him to stand again and walk. He still needed some leash pressure to fully go into the kennel. Per staff 7/30: Launch was baring teeth and snapping at the bars when I put my hand up. Per volunteer 7/29: Good, calm boy, good on leash. Per staff 7/26: Bright, alert, responsive, friendly. Per finder 7/25: Very aggressive towards cats. Nipped me when I tried to rescue. Very reactive. MEDICAL: On 7/27, Launch was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on doxycycline. He tested negative for pneumovirus. On 8/6, his symptoms were worsening and he was prescribed enrofloxacin in addition to the doxycycline. He completed the doxycycline on 8/9 and is on enrofloxacin until 8/16. During his intake exam on 7/26, Launch appeared to be in good health. His eyes, ears, nose, and coat were clean and he had white teeth. - Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted.
