My story

LOCATION: Westfield, NCDOB: 11/10/2023Meet Zeus, a 1.5-year-old gorgeous brindle Great Dane. This sweet, silly boy is looking for a fresh start and is available as a foster or foster-to-adopt while we complete his vetting. He is currently intact but will be neutered once he's in our care.Zeus is housebroken, crate trained, leash trained, rides well in the car, and knows his basic obedience. He’s also your classic Dane—loving, goofy, and always looking for someone to lean on. He’s a big fan of cuddles, tugging on knotted T-shirts, and staying close to his people.He currently lives with two miniature schnauzers. He gets along well with the spayed female but has ongoing tension with the neutered male, who has a dominant personality. Zeus would likely do well with another dog who’s calm, respectful, and not too in his face. With slow introductions, he has the potential to be a great companion.Cats are a bit of a mystery—he’s had limited exposure. The outdoor cat in his neighborhood swipes at him, and Zeus tends to keep his distance. He hasn’t shown signs of prey drive, but we can't say for certain how he’d do in a home with cats.Zeus has generally done well with children. However, in one rehoming situation, he was uncomfortable when a pre-teen attempted to give him hugs and kisses right away. With respectful boundaries and time to adjust, he’s shown himself to be a loving and loyal companion. His current family and his transporter have had no issues with him.Zeus does have a sensitive stomach and should stick with Diamond Naturals Lamb and Rice. He’s also a powerful chewer and should only have hard toys—he’s had a past impaction that required surgery, so soft or destructible toys are a no-go.This handsome boy can be a little cautious with new people, but once he feels safe, he’s affectionate and devoted. When guests visit, he’s perfectly content to relax in a quiet room until he feels ready to engage.Zeus is looking for a calm, committed home that will give him time to settle in and show his true, loving self.
