My story

Meet Bitsy! As in ‘Itsy Bitsy’ because she is a compact 40 lbs! She is a 2 year-old, pillow fort building snuggle monster. And we mean it- her favorite past time is building the perfect fort with pillows, or finding the coziest place to snuggle up. This gal loves a good nap or 10! In addition to naps, Bitsy loves being with her people. So much so that when foster mom is working at her computer, Bitsy likes to place her paws just perfectly on her hands so that foster mom will stop typing and pay attention to her. Like any new person, it takes Bitsy a few seconds to warm up. She initially barks, wags her tail, and then approaches for pets. If you say ‘good girl’ she quickly drops her guard and knows that it’s ok to say hello. She has yet to meet anyone she didn’t love. For a young gal like Bitsy, she is rather low energy. She does love the sunshine and her outside zoomiess, but inside she is quite mellow. Not a toy enthusiast, she prefers a bone and a good belly rub. However, if you throw a toy to her outside she will gleefully toss it up in the air and chase it down! She enjoys a nice walk around town as well, and displays curiosity at almost everything she takes in. She pulls at times on leash, but is so easily redirected with a treat or a ‘good girl’. At 40 lbs, she is easy to manage. We have been working on loose-leash walking and Bitsy does great. She will stop once you stop walking and sit when asked. Bitsy gets along great with her resident foster dog brother (who can even be a bit grumpy!). She likes to play and will roll over onto her back to signal it’s time for him to loosen up! She also gets along with her resident foster cat sister. She does like to chase her cat sister, but it’s always in a playful manner. We have observed no dog reactiveness. In fact, a playful sibling would be welcomed. She has been left alone in her crate for up to 6 hours and never had an accident. She is continuing to work on her crate training; but typically cries for about 15 minutes and then settles down and falls asleep. Recently, she has earned privileges to be left alone with more space. She is not destructive, no chewing, no digging, no scratching, etc. She is still working on her house-training and is so close to being fully trained! Taking her out every 4-5 hours will usually ensure there are no accidents. She has had no accidents overnight. Highly food motivated, this gal loves treats and meal time, but is respectful of humans eating around here; never begging. The world is still a new and strange place for Bitsy. She was rescued alongside 13 other dogs in the same home, and likely didn’t have much outside exposure. She will bark at the unknowns she sees through the window; mainly to alert her humans that something is going on. A treat will distract her. We have loved watching Bitsy come out of her shell and blossom into the wonderful loving dog that she is. Her personality is something to cherish, just like her adorable underbite! Other observations: - does great on car rides (lays down quickly and sleeps!) - no issue with grooming (bathing, nail trim, looking at teeth) - not a picky eater - behaved well at vet visitsJuly 29, 2025, 8:10 pm

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Bitsy, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
