My story

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our dog adoption questionnaire and e-mail any questions to: lauren.baird.htar@gmail.com PLEASE VISIT THIS WEBSITE TO FIND THE ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE: http://www.homewardtrails.org/adopt-a-pet/adoption-forms/ LOCATION: foster home ADOPTION COORDINATOR: lauren.baird.htar@gmail.com ADOPTION FEE: ADOPTION FEE: $475 which INCLUDES spay/neuter and microchip. **Ask me about our many adoption benefits that include free exams, pet insurance, training and other discounts! ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 45 lbs KNOWN WITH DOGS: Good with other dogs Takes cues from other dogs wonderfully and is very respectful. KNOWN WITH CATS: Great with cats, completely unbothered KNOWN WITH KIDS: Will know more soon KNOWN COMMANDS: Pulls some on leash but easily corrected. KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING &/OR CRATING: Completely housetrained and will signal to go outside. KNOWN LIKES: People, belly rubs, cuddling KNOWN DISLIKES: We haven't discovered dislikes yet. ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Leo is coming to HT from a rural shelter, where he was an owner surrender. Here are some great detailed notes from his foster! Leo is a super friendly and smart dog. He loves people and other dogs. He takes cues easily when corrected and is respectful of others boundaries. When faced with aggressive behavior from other dogs he is interactive and removes himself by walking away. He is super affectionate, loves being petted, belly rubs and will politely ask for more by reaching out with his paw! Even our somewhat tricky dog, Freya, loves him and tries to initiate play! He loves being outside and has to sniff everything. Can pull a little on leash but again takes correction easily. With a bit more focused training I think he would do great. He is completely house-broken and gives very clear indication of his need to go out - he runs to the door and boops it his head or swipes it with his paw. He shows no interest in cats. A casual glance at most even when very close. Also ignores the notorious neighborhood cat called Bandit who's life work is to torment dogs. Bandit was confused when Leo failed to respond. Not interested in chasing deer, vaguely interested in squirrels but bunnies are his Kryptonite! Will sit or lie quietly when out and about and we stop walking. Will tuck up under café tables and be still while we are eating or drinking. Does like using his baby blue eyes to beg silently for human food! After walks likes snoozing, often for hours at a time and is a pretty chilled out guy in the home. Does like jumping up when greeting new people but again easily corrected. He does self-comfort by 'nursing' on a big, plush bed but that is quite rare. He rarely barks, does not respond to the mailman coming ir front door opening. Will sometimes let out a little yip when excited to go for a walk. HT ADOPTION INCLUSIONS: Spay/Neuter First 3 distemper series vaccines & de-wormings Microchip - lifetime with no registration fees Current on heartworm preventative Current on flea/tick preventative EXCLUSIVE ADOPTER BENEFITS: Free first exam with: Caring Hands Animal Hospital, Palisades Veterinary Clinic, Jermantown Animal Hospital, Union Veterinary Clinic and Clarendon Animal Care and all VCA Animal Hospitals (VCA offers $250 coverage - details provided) Free online workshop with a professional dog trainer at Fur-Get Me Not within the first 30 days of adopting (in DC/Arlington/Alexandria only) A portion of EVERY ADOPTION fee supports spay/neuter for animals in under-resourced communities BE A FOSTER: Save a life: http://www.homewardtrails.org/foster-a-pet/dog-and-cat-foster-program.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Leo, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
