My story

There's nothing quite like puppy's energy and silliness...and then they put their beautiful heads quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm baby breath. These very sweet and loving young puppies are so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think of them in a high-kill shelter with euthanasia pending due to a lack of space. Alice, at just about 7 weeks old and 2 lbs (anticipated to be approximately 10 - 12 lbs when full grown), was facing the end of her life before it ever began. Farfel's Texas rescuers are compassionate and loving and couldn't turn their back on this very sweet girl with the great temperament..they rescued Alice just in the nick of time to spare her life. Alice is starting out with great energy. The excellent results of her temperament-testing ended with a transport ticket to Colorado and a new life. Sweet Ali is also very beautiful with gorgeous dark eyes that display wisdom far beyond her years. We realize that his photo is not very good and doesn't reflect the beauty of this wonderful puppy. We've been promised better photos and will update the moment we receive them. Alice has the potential for a stunning and shining coat. Her hair is currently shelter-tired but once on a regular protocol of care, it will be cottony-soft and shining with excellent health. Alice will require a lifelong commitment to periodic sudsy baths, brushing and great nutrition (5 star food and a salmon oil supplement are excellent regimens for general longevity and hair care) to keep Alice's coat healthy, shining and soft as cotton. Alice is appropriately playful and inquisitive for her young age. She's also so loving and cuddly. She would be very excited to be a couch or bed dog and snuggle with her favorite people at the end of an active day. She's SO smart and very engaging - very typical of a Chihuahua / Terrier puppy. Some would say dogs of these two breeds are among the sweetest and engaging in the dog world. Since Alice is just a young girl, she's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show her the way. She has all the potential in the world to be an awesome adult companion. Alice will form firm bonds with her family (as well as other dogs and humans) and learn positive socialization skills through virtual or in-person level 1 positive reinforcement Obedience Classes. This training experience will make a profound difference in a dog's behavior and her relationship with her people. It does take time and commitment yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior. We feel very strongly that every dog and their family deserves the opportunity for formal, positive reinforcement training classes. We therefore aren't willing to adopt Alice out to a home that doesn't choose to offer her this training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved virtual or in-person positive reinforcement / force-free trainers in your area. We're open to Alice finding her forever home with a retired couple or individual with lots of energy to train and enjoy a silly and super-smart young pup. Alice enjoys her relationships with all humans and dogs...we would prefer, however, to place her in a home with older kids (tail pulling or rough treatment will create an adult dog that's fearful of children). Older kids can be active participants in a training regimen and friendship that's so important in a dog's development. Alice enjoys her relationships with other dogs as well and would love playing hard and then enjoying the sunshine with a canine friend on a beautiful day. Alice will be up to date on her vetting/vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs. Extensive new research shows that Alice is far too young to be spayed at this time. When she's approximately 12 months old, Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Alice's spay and microchip if one of our rescue vets is used. Alice will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Saturday 8/5/2025. Applications are currently being accepted for this beautiful, very sweet and loyal best friend. An application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Alice please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving puppy. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Alice, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
