My story

Kita is a 9-month-old Akita mix who was found as a stray in Southwick and never reclaimed. Now she’s with us, ready to find a home of her own! Since Kita came in as a stray, we don’t know anything about her past—including whether she’s house trained or how she does with kids or cats. What we do know is that she loves people and is full of energy. She hasn’t had any manners training yet, so she can be jumpy, a little mouthy, and pulls on leash—but she’s very food motivated and eager to learn. With some guidance and consistency, she’s going to be a star student. Kita also enjoys playing with other dogs, though her play style is definitely rough and tumble. She’d do best with a tolerant dog friend who can handle her enthusiasm, and we recommend a meet and greet to make sure it’s a good match. If you're looking for a playful, enthusiastic pup who's ready to learn and grow with you, come meet Kita! #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available dogs in the shelter. (Dogs in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the dog first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a dog for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours. **Holds are not available for puppies under six months, on Saturdays, or during adoption events. -------------------------------------------- All adult dog adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies and kennel cough vaccinations - heartworm test -current parvo/distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -microchip implanted & registered to adopter -treatment of fleas & ticks -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days of adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your pet.
