Swiftie is a three-year-old Akita mix with a heart as big as her dreams. This beautiful girl spent her life in an outdoor pen, chained up and neglected. When she and her puppies were rescued, she was severely underweight and covered in fly bites—but you’d never know it by the way she greets people with gentle joy and affection. She’s put on some much-needed weight, but needs to gain some more. She will continue to blossom with care, comfort, and love. Swiftie quickly took to the good life in her first foster home, where she discovered the magic of air conditioning and decided that being an indoor dog was definitely her vibe. She’s reportedly house-trained and keeps a clean run at the shelter. She enjoys outdoor time for play, sunbathing, and potty breaks. She did well with the resident dog in her previous foster home, though her play style leans a bit rough and tumble, so any dog introductions should be slow, structured, and closely supervised. She’s met kids ages 5 and up and handled it beautifully. Shelter staff describe her as a fun, happy girl who soaks up attention, keeps all four on the floor, and is always up for a good time. Swiftie is a large-breed dog who still needs a little help learning the basics. After all, she never had the chance to learn much in her previous life. What she needs now is someone patient and kind, ready to show her what it means to be part of a family—for real this time. A volunteer donated a DNA test, and we’re excited to learn even more about this lovely girl soon. If you're ready to help a resilient mama dog write her next chapter, Swiftie is more than ready for her love story to begin. Her minimum adoption fee is $300 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. She has been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
