My story

Meet Leah, a one-year-old Border Collie mix weighing in at about 30 pounds. She’s a bright, energetic young dog with all the drive and instincts typical of her herding breed roots. Leah is looking for a home that understands her unique needs and is ready to help her continue building confidence through gentle guidance, patience, and plenty of positive reinforcement. Leah is making steady progress with house-training and does very well in her crate. While she’s a bit wary around men, she warms up quickly to women and becomes a friendly, happy, and playful companion to those she trusts. She’s still working on impulse control and tends to jump up when excited—sometimes even using her humans as springboards—so she'll do best in a home with kids over the age of 10. She coexists peacefully with the other dogs in her foster home, though she doesn’t seem particularly interested in playing or interacting with them. Leah’s ideal home will be one where she can get plenty of mental and physical stimulation—she might really enjoy something like agility or structured training games to keep her sharp. Experience with herding breeds is a big plus, as Leah will thrive with someone who understands her instincts and is committed to helping her continue to grow into a confident, well-adjusted adult dog. If you're looking for a smart, spirited companion with lots of potential, Leah just might be your perfect match.  Her minimum adoption fee is $300 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. She has been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
