Meet Macho, a SUPER sweet and submissive boy who isn't sure how he found himself at the shelter. Macho was picked up in an alley with 2 other dogs and brought to the shelter. Since getting here, Macho has been incredibly shut down in the loud scary shelter environment. Macho takes some time to warm up but is very treat motivated- the best way to get him comfortable is to bring some yummy treats! Once comfortable, Macho is open to handling and open to meeting other doggos. We'd love to see him go to a safe home where his true personality can shine! Macho is now available for adoption at ACCT Philly- you can meet him any day from 10am-6pm! Video: + Playgroup 8/11: David, Macho https://youtu.be/09oeZv4yTRE + Macho/David drop leash meets: https://youtu.be/mBeUxnewNq0 https://youtu.be/aT0BVUk8sKo + Petting Macho: https://youtu.be/14t7e4AZN8s + Macho the scared boy: https://youtu.be/Xzk--ZZUAWk Behavior Notes: Per Volunteer 8/11/25: Macho is a very scared boy, quite submissive overall. When I went to leash him, he was laying on his bed and slowly came forward to sniff me out. When I started to open the door and put my leash in he backed away slowly with a tucked tail and submissive body language. I dropped a few treats and he’s clearly very treat motivated and came forward for them immediately. I closed the divider to make the space smaller and dropped a few more treats and slowly was able to loop the leash around his neck. Walking through the shelter, he is quite overwhelmed. On the walk he was very slowly cowering back when he hears loud noises or people. When we got outside, we went to the play yard and he very cautiously walked in, leaving his back legs outside and I had to wait a minute before closing the door for him to fully get inside. Definitely very overwhelmed. He slowly came over to explore me, and I was just sitting on a bench to give him space. I gave him multiple treats and he takes them super gently out out of my hand. He doesn’t seem to know exactly how to take them out of your hand, but figured it out. He ended up taking a lot of pets from me and got a bit more affectionate. He joined play group with a very affectionate and eager dog. Macho was incredibly tolerant as David tried to play bow, putting a paw on on him and even trying to hump him. Towards the end, he was giving some tail wags, with a bit more interest back. Definitely seems like he is very tolerant and open to dog interaction and would be more playful when he opens up. No issues returning to his kennel. Sweet and submissive boy! Per Staff 8/8/25: Very tense and scared during intake exam, easily distracted with food. Per Staff 8/7/25: Behavior Eval: Kennel Presentation: Macho was on his bed, fearful with a tucked tail, wide eyes and lowered body. once i opened the kennel door he retreated to the backside so i tossed some treats to lure him to the front. once he was on the bed i tossed the leash for him to sniff it but every time he saw the leash he pinned himself in the corner. i was able to put treats in the middle of the leash and secured him. Leash Skills: he needed lots of leash pressure and treats to walk through the kennels Sociability: Once we were outside I let Macho walk around the yard with a dropped leash. i waited until he came up to me for a greeting. he came up to me curiously to sniff me, allowing some light handling but tucked his head away (head shy). with some treats i was able to do more handling as he laid his head comfortably in my lap. he kept his body stretched out and his tail low whenever he walked around the yard but stayed near my side most of the time. Play: did not engage i play Dog Interaction: n/a Return to Kennel: tossed treats in the kennel for him to return Color Level: exp blue Per Staff 8/7/25: Unable to check in due to behavior, very fearful and backed up into the corner not allowing the leash on.
