My story

Meet Bo! This handsome, budding senior came to our rescue after his elderly owner, who suffered from dementia, passed away. As his owner’s health declined, so did Bo’s care. It’s a situation we see all too often: older dogs suddenly in need of new homes after a lifetime with one person. Bo had spent most of his life outdoors. Though he was brought inside during bad weather and had some early vet care, he never truly experienced the comfort of a home or the love of a family. For the last three years, he had no routine care, no preventatives, no checkups, and came to us unneutered, heartworm positive, and with painful ear infections. But even after all of that, Bo’s gentle, loving spirit shines through. This big-hearted boy is a 95-pound English Lab who’s settled beautifully into his foster home with Nancy, Jack, their dog Maggie, and two cats. He gets along well with other dogs, and while he needed a little time to adjust to the cats, he now just ignores them. Bo has truly embraced home life. Soft beds, toys, dips in the pool on hot South Carolina days, and the glory of air conditioning are his new favorites.  He’s also shown himself to be quite the social boy. Bo loves visitors, but especially adores the grandkids when they come to play. He’s so sweet and gentle with them. Foster mom Nancy shares: “Bo is a sweetheart and has fully settled into our routine. His ears are looking so much better. He’s 100% housetrained and has become much more tolerant of the cats, he mostly just ignores them now. He goes into his crate without issue at night and has become quite the snuggler. He’s very friendly with new people and loves a good cuddle on the couch. His favorite summer activity is sprawling out on the cool wood floor. Sometimes he’ll gently rest one of his huge paws on my knee - it’s the sweetest thing. I even ordered him a cooling mat to keep him comfy!” Thanks to rescue, Bo is finally living the life he always deserved. He’s on the path to better health and a brighter future. Once he completes his heartworm treatment in August, Bo will be ready to find a forever family of his own, one that will give him the love, comfort, and security he’s waited a lifetime for. Bo’s best days are ahead. Could they be with you?
