My story

Meet Chipmunk – The Toy-Toting, Ball-Chasing Genius!(Yes, his name is Chipmunk. No, we’re not changing it.)At a sturdy 98 lbs, Chipmunk is 3.5 years old and basically a walking, wagging contradiction: equal parts goofball and genius, athlete and nap enthusiast. He’s housetrained, crate trained, and rides like a gentleman in the car. Chipmunk is, in his own words (if he could talk), “devastatingly handsome” His fan club is mostly made up of every human he meets, because he adores people. That said, at nearly 100 pounds of pure enthusiasm, he may be a little too much love and energy for small children or elderly folks who’d prefer not to be accidentally steamrolled by affection.Chipmunk is a graduate of our Education Project for Inmates & Canines, a prison dog training program at the Idaho State Correctional Center. He has learned a variety of useful skills alongside his EPIC handler Chuck. Don’t let his beefy build fool you—Chipmunk is brilliant. In addition to the basics, he also knows several cues that will help his future family navigate real life moments with him. He also learned to give high fives with both paws, because he’s ambidextrous and extra. He even plays dead with tongue out for added dramatic effect. Chipmunk has excellent manners in the house. He doesn’t steal food, eat shoes, or turn your socks into chew toys. What he will do is follow you from room to room with a ball in his mouth. Did we mention the ball obsession? It’s real. It’s passionate. But due to some stiffness and soreness after too much fetch, his ball time is supervised and limited—much to his dramatic dismay. He gets along well with other dogs and will sometimes bark at them just to say, “Hey! I’m awesome! Wanna hang out?” It might sound like a lot, but he’s just trying to make friends. Cats, however, bring out his inner predator—so feline-free homes only, please. If you’re looking for a smart, hilarious, people-loving hunk of a good boy, Chipmunk is your guy. Bonus points if you’re good at fetch and don’t mind sharing the couch.Ready to meet Chipmunk?
