Meek Mookie- a shy boy brought to the shelter as a stray. His finder described him as ‘friendly, shy and scared’. At the shelter, he’s been hesitant in new situations. Volunteers and staff have noted can retreat some when people reach to pet him and nervous with whale eyes when new people approach. After some time with a new person, Mookie rolls over on his belly and has been noted to be submissive. Mookie went on a day trip with a volunteer and said he is very handler oriented! He looks to his humans for reassurance as he builds confidence. They noted he walks like a gentleman on a leash and loved giving sweet kisses! Mookie has had good dog meets and might do well with a dog sibling. Please bring all members of the family (including those with fur) to meet Mookie. ACCT is open every day 10am-6pm. He has a great ‘happy go lucky’ low energy, but I suspect as he settles in to his new home he would be low to medium energy. On our walks he was not in a rush to go anywhere, just sniff and look at the people going by. He was totally happy to sit in my lap and just observe for a while. He didn’t pull on the leash at all. He was a little bit nervous at times, but never reactive, he would just freeze until he realized he was okay. And once he felt comfortable with me, he would seek reassurance from me, and then happily proceed with whatever he was doing. With people, he would match their energy. If someone approached him with a soft voice and excitement he would happily greet them, but if they approached him tentatively, he would do the same. However, all of that went out the window if he was offered a treat. He is VERY food motivated and would sit very nicely and excitedly hoping for a treat, and then that person would be his new best friend . He didn’t meet any dogs or children directly, but as we would pass them on our walk he seemed excited to see both with a high wagging tail. I let him meet my pet ducks from a distance, and he had preHe didn’t have too much interest in playing, but I did give him a bone to chew on and he acted as if he won the lottery and it was the best day he had ever had, he was SO happy. He gives the sweetest gentle kisses and really just seems like wants a person! Overall, he is a wonderful boy who I think would fit in to a lot of different types of homes! Volunteer Notes: 8/9/2025 Mookie was easy to remove and return to the kennel. He was very wiggly and had a mid level tail wag. He can be head shy. He is very food motivated and can be snatchy at times. He will sit. He does catch treats well. Staff 8/7/25: Playgroup Notes: Curious, low tail wags, fearful, warmed up, loose, handler ori, submissive Staff 8/7/25: Kennel Presentation: Grabbed him from a vol Leash Skills: pulls minimally on leash, does lots of check ups Sociability: Mookie was a bit nervous wit ha tucked tail and worried wide eyes. I called him over with a treat in my hand which he sat for. he took them a bit snatchy so i used an open palm. he was very timid and pretty nervous but was warming up to me and another staff member very quickly. he submissively would roll onto his back, showing tummy with a smile. he allowed all over handling and needed a slower approach to begin with. Mookie needs time to adjust but warms up to a big cuddle bug Play: He did not engage in play with me Dog Interaction: Did eval right after PG, refer to PG notes Return to Kennel: sniffed the kennel and then walked right in Color Level: blue Recommendations and considerations: bring treats, go slow, let him approach you Staff 8/6/25: was huffing, lip puffing, low growling when i approached ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in.
