My story

Meet Sammy! This goofy wiggle butt of a dog is looking to warm her way right into your heart. Stranger? Not sure Sammy has ever heard of one. This social butterfly has experience with dogs but is looking for the right match. If there is a resident dog in the home, some speed dating at the Shelter would be best prior to adoption. Sammy isn’t only personality and looks – this girl has brains! She knows “sit”, “stay”, “lay down”, “roll over”, “shake”. This girl may have a few other tricks up her sleeve but that is for her adopter to learn with her through positive reinforcement based training! A home free of small animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, cats) and chickens is required. If you are looking for an active girl to adventure with you – consider meeting Sammy today!The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw!Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
