My story

Meet Tuna – a 9-month-old klee kai with a quirky personality and a flair for the dramatic. She loves people and enjoys affection, but if touched in a way she’s not expecting, she might let out an Oscar-worthy squeal. We don’t know much about Tuna’s past — she came to us after being surrendered by a neighbor who took her in from someone else — but it’s clear she’s still figuring out the world, especially other dogs. She wants to play but gets overwhelmed, so she’s looking for a home where she can be the only dog (and skip the dog parks). With a patient, dog-savvy family (teens and up), Tuna’s sweet, silly nature will keep you entertained as she learns to navigate the big wide world. #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available dogs in the shelter. (Dogs in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the dog first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a dog for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours. **Holds are not available for puppies under six months, on Saturdays, or during adoption events. -------------------------------------------- All adult dog adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies and kennel cough vaccinations - heartworm test -current parvo/distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -microchip implanted & registered to adopter -treatment of fleas & ticks -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days of adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your pet.
