Kong

My story

Kong is a 9–10-week-old adorable little rat terrier/puggle mix puppy that is now available for adoption! This boy weighed a whopping 5.9 pounds at the vet on August 8th. We do not believe he will get over 15 lbs once full grown. We unfortunately do not know who his parents are though, but he has very small paws. Kong was found roaming the streets of the Texas/Mexico border where a good Samaritan found him, hungry, infested with fleas, and in need of a safe place to sleep, and groceries. Thankfully the person reached out and our foster was able to get to Kong and immediately take him to the vet where he was started on vaccinations, flea/tick prevention and dewormer. Kong is a very happy and sweet boy. He loves everyone he meets, and his tail is always wagging. He would be great with children as long as the children are kind to him. He loves to be next to you or follow you around. He is learning that being picked up and held is a good thing and you get lots of pets, baby talks and kisses this way. He will definitely make a wonderful lap dog and cuddle buddy. Being a puppy, house training will need to be worked on, but we have no doubt he will learn over time with consistency. Kong is learning what toys are and learning to play with him. It does not seem like he had access to toys in his past life though, poor baby. It is so cute watching him try to play though! This gentle boy loves his belly rubbed and will lay on his back, paws in the air and just sit back and enjoy the loving. Kong does not mind other dogs and with proper introductions, will be fine with kitties too. An ideal home for Kong will be medium active – not too crazy as he is not a very hyper dog (that we see so far anyway), but one that understands he is a puppy and needs proper training, exercise and all-around consistency to make him the best pupper for a home possible. Kong is current on age-appropriate vaccinations, dewormer, flea/tick and heart worm prevention, and he will be microchipped prior to adoption.
