My story

Please contact Kady Hammer (KadyH@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.the best and longest holiday you'll ever have! HOLIDAY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Come meet Holiday and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (August 24th) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Silver Spring (12020 Cherry Hill Rd, Silver Spring, MD 20904)!   Name:   Holiday     Best Guess for Breed:  Anatolian shepherd mix    Best Guess for Age:  3 years as of May 2025     SEX:  Female   Approximate Weight: 70 lbs    Gets Along With: Holiday does well with other dogs and has lived with a cat and a 12-year-old child! We are happy to discuss integration techniques if you have cats or kids in your home.    Currently Living at:  DC area foster home   Special adoption considerations: Holiday was heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. Holiday has completed the treatment and activity restriction phase, and is awaiting her six month follow up test.    Holiday is Looking For:  Her forever home. This sweetie landed a shelter as far south in Texas as you can get, heartworm positive and significantly underweight. She's slammed the book shut on that chapter and has opened a new one - one where she has her own humans, a family who cares for her and loves her. One where she gets to go on sniffy walks and spend plenty of time outside and just enjoy life.Going by her face and her body, she likely has some Anatolian shepherd in her along with something else. Let your Google-fu shine strong as you research Anatolian shepherds. That breed loves their family, their humans. Utterly loyal. Holiday has so much to offer her forever family. What do you say? Is Holiday the one for your home and your heart?   What My Foster Says About Me:  Holiday is the definition of a gentle giant. She is the sweetest soul and craves human affection. She loves cuddles but is also happy to lounge on the floor. She does not follow you everywhere, but still loves to be close to her family. She settles well. She has done great with the short interactions with our cat! Very gentle. I think she could be a great sibling for a dog-savvy cat. She does not mind other dogs, but does not seem to seek them out. On our walks, she just walks right by the dogs we pass without caring to say hello (this makes walks very peaceful!) She is a people oriented dog. She is great on leash, especially considering her size. She is easy to walk and handle, and likes to stroll and stop for sniffs. She is great with the 12 year old in our house. She is not overly vocal, and has only barked when in her crate, which she is still working on crate training. She is also super polite in the home and has no destructive behaviors. She mostly just likes to find a comfy spot on the couch, bed, floor, or yard to lay down and enjoy life. She is a calm, easy going dog. Whoever gets to adopt her is exceptionally lucky. She is a rare gem and just an amazing dog.   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament.   Thank you for contacting Lucky Dog Animal Rescue and helping to save a life!  Please visit us online at    www.luckydoganimalrescue.org   .    BE A FOSTER!!!    Fosters make it possible for Lucky Dog Animal Rescue to save and care for homeless and abandoned dogs!  To learn about fostering, please contact    fostering@luckydoganimalrescue.org   ! BE A SPONSOR!!!!    Sponsors help Lucky Dog support the many dogs we save.  To learn more about sponsorship, please contact   info@luckydoganimalrescue.org   .  August 21, 2025, 7:19 pm
