My story

Meet sweet Hailey, a girl who brings truth to the phrase 'puppy dog eyes'. As soon as this gal looks at you, you will be sure to melt! Hailey was found as a stray and brought into the shelter by animal control. The poor girl was terrified and took a few days in the shelter to be open to taking any handling. Once she opened up, we saw a wonderful and affectionate girl! Hailey loves to be in your arms and once she's getting pets will often melt into the group with her belly up asking for belly rubs. This sweet girl loves her cuddles and hoping she can get a lot of them in her forever home! Hailey is now available for adoption at ACCT Philly- you can meet her any day from 10am-6pm! Video: Petting Hailey: https://youtu.be/sjXdGkpOxqg Petting Hailey 2: https://youtu.be/7pIyPOzNHTQ Playgroup 8/15: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcnvoGYrJkIZgRyoyDk9CON4eEyuU33Ye Behavior: Per Volunteer 8/17/25: When I approached, she was laying on her bed, and I made a noise with my mouth and she came forward quickly to the front of the kennel with a wagging tail. Tail wagging as I leash her. She dodged the leash once and then I looped it easily over her head. She pulls quite a bit excitedly to get out of the shelter. Outside, she likes to stop and sniff the smells leisurely. In the play yard , she is incredibly sweet and affectionate. She likes to come up and sit next to me and lean on my legs. She took pets for me all over and when I would stop, she would gently nudge her head under my hand. Very treat motivated. She does take them slightly snatchy so gave treats with an open palm. Super sweet and loves new handlers, happily takes belly rubs from them. Goes back into kennel very easily Play group 8/15/25: Hailey was steerable at the gate wit her hackles raised and a high wagging tail for gate greetings. she was tolerant and curious in the yard engaging in some short lived play. Behavior Eval 8/13/25: Kennel Presentation: hailey was laying on her bed with soft eyes and curled in a ball. i called her forward and she came up hesitantly with a low tail and hackles raised. she stayed still at the front as i was able to overhead leash her. once secured she came right out. Leash Skills: pulls minimally Sociability: outside she was very stiff and tense with a high stiff tail and still body. in the yard, i offered her a treat and she snatched it from my hand. i offered another one lower to give her some comfort which she took softer. she knows sit and will sit patiently in front of you for a treat (very treat motivated). she is conflicted with handling and got very stiff with her ears back, tail down and lip licks when i did some light handling after offering another treat. we walked around for awhile in fragments i will call her over to me and she would sit right in front of me. she finally pressed against me and allowed some handling but this was very clearly appeasement. she kept appeasing to me and would roll onto her back, but knowing the rest of her body language (wide eyes and lip licks) i knew she was uncomfortable. Play:n/a Dog Interaction:n/a Return to Kennel: she jumped up when we passed the treats and i grabbed a peanut butter sandwich from the fridge. i got mid lever wags as she jumped up in the air excited for it. she walked right back into her kennel as i tossed some treats in Color Level: Exp Blue Recommendations and considerations: Per Staff 8/13/25: Jackie went to place something in her cage card and Hailey had hunched body, growled, snarled, and lunged in kennel. I approached 30 Min later and she did the same thing. ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week.
