A volunteer writes:Apple came to us with her fourteen housemates when their owner passed away. Nothing much is known about them except that they are all shy to fearful but eventually come out of their shell soon or later. None of these kitties are hissers or swatters, they are just overwhelmed by what struck them: the loss of their home, their friends and owner. Little Apple is a cute oreo cookie. She usually lays behind her covered cubby door but backs off prudently when I open it. Treats interest her but she will eat them after I leave. She shrinks into a ball or plasters herself like an Eiffel Tower to the back of her cubby when I try to reach her. Depending on the day, she will just accept my touch or melts slowly to the bottom of her kennel and leans into pets. Apple is trying very hard but she is not there yet...It will take more time for her to fully come out of her shell in a shelter environment but might do better in the cozyness and the safety of a home and in the hands of an experienced and patient new owner. Apple, very much, needs this very special person...What my friends at ACC say about me:I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets.
