My story

Meet Smokey! We are still getting to know this distinguished gentleman. He likely needs some time and space to come out of his shell. If you have a heart full of patience and love to provide a soft space for a senior pet, please come meet Smokey today. Anti-Cruelty offers same day adoptions so your new companion could be settling in and snuggling up with you this evening. This cat is overweight and unable to fully groom and clean their back end. This animal will need extra care to help keep these areas groomed and cleaned. Poor grooming of these areas can result in irritated and infected skin. Owners will need to shave and clean the perinal area until the cat has lost weight and is able to clean themselves properly. Please work with your veterinarian to develop a weight loss strategy which can include food restriction, exercise, and frequent weigh-ins; being overweight can also lead to other serious health conditions. This animal is also a senior pet that, other than being obese, appears healthy on physical examination. Most senior animals have mild to moderate dental disease, possibly arthritis and sometimes weakness or muscle wasting to their rear legs or back. These are all normal findings for a senior animal however often need to be addressed with your veterinarian. A senior pet does require additional care and any treatments or diagnostics needed as they continue to age will be the adopter’s financial responsibility. Your veterinarian will want to keep a close eye on your new pet. Regular physical exams, blood tests, and dental cleanings will ensure their health and help avoid many of the problems associated with old age. Geriatric veterinary care is well worth it to keep your older friend happy, healthy, and comfortable.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Smokey, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
