My story

Buttons Hello there! My name is Buttons! Betcha can’t guess why I am named Buttons can you? Well, it is like this. I don’t have any eyeballs! Yup, it is true. I lost one before I was found by animal control and unfortunately, the other eye was damaged and had to be removed as soon as I got to the rescue. Does it bother me? Oh heck no! My smeller is working just fine and I find my way around without much bumping into things now at my foster mom’s house. The other little dogs help me too, but I can feel the patio door open and the warm air, so I know exactly where to aim my nose for and out I go! And I can hear a pin drop at 100 yards, or rather the sound of the can opener or the click of the spoon dishing out the food so I know it is meal time. That sets the smeller into overdrive! I know when the food comes to my room, I head for my crate to eat so the other dogs won’t sneak up on me and try to snatch it away. I may not be able to see them coming but I can hear them and will snap the air if I think they are too close. I get along fine with the other dogs, but do prefer to hang out with the girls my size than the bigger dogs. Since they are bigger than me and I can’t see them, I feel better with the ones my size. I am not scared or anything, and will bark and growl at them if they come near, I have the disadvantage of not seeing where they are or where they are going. I am housebroken, believe it or not, and can hold it a long time. Foster mom has a puppy pad for some of the oldsters here, and if I can’t get the people to open the door for me, I will use the puppy pad to poo if it sneaks up on me. But I like to go outside to do my business. I did wear a diaper until I learned the shape of my area and knew where the door was, and the routine of the house. I don’t mind that. I know what it is for. I love to be petted and loved on. I am mostly sweet, but hate to be startled as then I may react by snapping or growling at you by mistake. Always talk to me before you touch me so I know it is coming. I am a shih tzu and weigh 14 pounds and am 4 years old. One thing to remember is that I will need regular baths and grooming to keep my coat in good shape. When I came from animal control, I went to the groomer right away because I was covered with mats and dirt and foster mom said I was really stinky! I don’t want to feel that icky ever again! So you will have to promise to keep me looking good even if I can’t see myself in the mirror. My adoption fee is 200 local in Texas and 450 if I am transported out of state.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Buttons aka Max GC, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
