My story

Please contact Kristin (cats@arrcolorado.org) for more information about this pet.  If you’ve ever thought to yourself, “I wish I had a cat who looked like a Muppet,” then oh boy do we have the guy for you. This is Hagrid. He also goes by Haggard or Haggy. He came to ARR as a bit of a hot mess, but he has come so far from his former life as a trailer park kitty! Haggy, who is estimated to be between 6-8 years old, was trapped with a horribly matted coat, a rotten mouth, an FIV and herpes virus infection, and a tail that’s kinked at the end. Who knows what led this big sweetheart to being in this condition, but at least now he’s doing a lot better. His coat is drastically improved (and he enjoys brushing), he had all those pesky rotten teeth removed, and his herpes flare has subsided. He still has FIV of course, but since that can only be transmitted through bite wounds, and Haggy has one remaining tooth, he’s not passing that on to anyone! (FIV means reduced immune function, but with an indoor life, FIV cats thrive with no additional vet care and generally live to old age.) Hagrid enjoys the company of other cats, but he truly loves people. He will purr up a storm while you pet him and is a total love who is really into soft beds, yummy food, and curling up next to his person. Sometimes, if you move too suddenly, he gets upset and will give you a chomp. Then he will let out a meow that sounds like an old door that hasn’t been opened in a century and dive bomb his big, blocky head into your side to apologize. With a grand total of one tooth, he can't hurt anyone, but it's still a bit rude. He is now on a low dose of Prozac which has greatly curbed this behavior. It is a transdermal cream that is rubbed into his ear, and he is a perfect gentleman about allowing this.  We fully realize that Haggy isn’t the right cat for everyone, but he’s a true gem of a guy for someone who needs to be able to look at their cat and think, “Wow, my hair doesn’t actually look that bad after all.” All jokes aside, Hagrid will provide so much love and laughter to his adopter’s life. He has a big personality and is just so affectionate. He would enjoy living with other cats (he loves to cuddle and groom others) and would likely be fine with dogs (can be dog tested) and older kids (teenagers) who can read his cues. If you think you can provide an amazing home for this wonderfully unique guy, please apply here: https://arrcolorado.org/apply-to-adopt-a-pet/ Hagrid is fostered in Conifer, CO. Check out his foster's Instagram for more of him and his foster friends @KittyCatClimberGirl.    Foster: BS   Animal Rescue of the Rockies believes that every pet should find a wonderful, caring home. To ensure each pet finds the best possible home, we ask that you fill out an adoption application form so we can learn more about you and your household. We review each application we receive and will contact you as quickly as possible. A home visit will be scheduled before any pet is adopted to a new home. Once a home visit has taken place and the adoption application has been approved, we will ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement form. Our adoption fees help cover the cost of spay/neuter, veterinary exams, vaccinations, microchipping, and foster care. Highly requested breeds help cover the vet costs incurred by some of our other cats, enabling us to save more lives! $300 for purebred/highly requested kittens, 6 months or younger, such as Siamese mixes, Maine Coon mixes.  These 'guardian kittens' help support our rescue work by covering vet costs for other kittens. $200 for purebred/highly requested cats older than 6 months such as Siamese mixes, Maine Coone mixes.  These 'guardian cats' help support our rescue work by covering vet costs for other kittens. $200 for kittens (6 months & under)    $125 for cats (older than 6 months)    $75 for senior cats (8 years or older) If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an adoption application  here . We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process! Please email cats@arrcolorado.org for more information, as we can not accept calls at this time. PLEASE NOTE:  The breed listed is the information we've received from the shelter.  Shelters usually guess at the breed, so there is no guarantee, as we don't DNA test our foster pets.  Here is some interesting info on breed identification:  https://arrcolorado.org/category/puppy-dog-tips/ Our adoption process is: 1. Fill out our Adoption Application online.  We'll contact you within 48 hours to answer any questions you may have about the pet. 2. If the pet looks like a great match, we'll schedule a meet and greet and ask you to fill out our online Adoption Agreement if you'd like to proceed with adopting.  Once you've completed the Adoption Agreement and pay the pet's Adoption Fee, you can arrange to pick up your new furry family member! If you have any questions or would like to adopt Hagrid, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
