My story

Meet Mack! This handsome chocolate brindle boxer mix. This adolescent boy has a history of living with children under 12 years old, teens, men and women. His favorite activities in his previous home were playing with the 10 year old nephew in the home and going on walks. Mack had some canine friends as neighbors in his previous home – another boxer and a small terrier. They would all get together on a regular basis for playdates, which Mack enjoyed. Mack may enjoy a canine companion in his adoptive home. We’d recommend any resident dogs meet Mack at the Shelter prior to adoption. Mack has chased cats in his previous home so a home free of felines is required. This smart cookie knows “sit” and “wait” and would love to continue learning through positive reinforcement based training with his next family. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw!Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
