My story

HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet this dog, please email Lora at lrogers@arl-iowa.org.---- Exceptionally sweet dog with an adorable personality; loves life and everything in it! - Is a special girl with some special medical conditions, including a wobbly gait known as ataxia; we are unsure of the cause, but being on tile or wood floors can be tricky for her, and she will do best in a home without a lot of stairs - Enjoys snuggling on the couch, playing with stuffed animals, chewing bully sticks, going on walks, lying in the sun, mealtime and playing while lying on her back - Friendly to everyone she meets - Rides well in the car - Her foster family said she has been quiet and calm when they are away - Has been perfect with potty training in her foster home and has never had an accident in the house; just remember that any dog may need time to get used to a new schedule and routine - Sleeps through the night in her foster home and patiently waits for her family to take her for a walk in the morning right after a quick snuggle and belly rub - Has met and lived with a variety of dogs and has done well with all of them, although she may be a bit barky at first if they intimidate her or are too interested; may do best with calm dogs who will respect her personal space (dog intro recommended) - Did great with some cats in her foster home - Has indicators of intervertebral disk disease (IVDD) and may require specialized veterinary care in the future; we are happy to talk to you in more detail about her condition, and we also recommend discussing it with your regular veterinarian- Had surgery on both knees to repair luxating patellas and is doing well now - Will be a wonderful, loving companion for a person or family who can accommodate her needs; she is truly the sweetest girl!All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed.
