My story

Say hello to Emmy! She is a beautiful 3 year old German Shepherd with red and black coloring. Emmy had a rough start in life, raised in a home with multiple dogs, no training, no regular exercise. She had a poor diet or had to compete for food because she only weighs 40lbs- healthy weight should be 50-55lbs. She was in a government shelter in a rural area and was considered hard to adopt because of her lack of training and abundant energy. If you are familiar with German Shepherds you know: they are working dogs, need an outlet for their natural energy, very smart and learn quickly, need a owner who will be calm but in charge and willing to continue to training her consistently. I have been Emmy’s foster for only 4 days and the changes in her are remarkable already. She is a sweet girl and is walking well with a gentle leader. She plays with toys like a puppy, loves chasing balls and can catch them. Loves to flop in your lap for rubs and cuddles and is attentive when we are in training mode. She was very dog reactive the first 2 days with barking and charging. She passes most dogs on walks now without reacting, but we practice giving space between dogs, “leave it” and treats for good behavior. She is now calm in the house as long as she is separated by a gate from my dogs. She may do better as the only dog in your home for now. She was spayed recently, is crate trained and housebroken, unknown how she reacts with cats. She has a sweet disposition with people and will take treats gently with a reminder. She will need regular exercise, expect to brush her regularly, and continue training which will only strengthen the bond between you and her. Emmy is well worth the time invested to get to know her and work with her! Please add a lotta unconditional love, sloppy kisses, tail wags and endless happiness to your family adoptions@wagginghearts.org for an adoption application and bring me home. I will come with the works (Neutered, up to date on everything, micro chipped, fecal, heart worm tested if age appropriate, heartworm, flea and tick prevented, a free vet visit and medical insurance). What more could a new family ask for? Love and Kisses, Emmy

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Emmy, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
