Please contact Anna Colllins (anna.collins@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.Lester is looking for a forever home! Lester NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Lester Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd/Terrier mix Best Guess for Age: 3 years as of June 2025 SEX: male Approximate Weight: 45 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: South Carolina shelter. Lester needs a foster or forever home to come to the DC area! Check out this video of Lester: https://youtube.com/shorts/e1s1QhBsyxw. Special adoption considerations: Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. We think Lester would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure he can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to learn the ropes. Lester is Looking For: Lester is a 'sato' from the streets of Puerto Rico who made his way to South Carolina on a rescue flight, leaving his tough past behind. He's a tripod, but don’t let that fool you—Lester moves through life with confidence, curiosity, and plenty of tail wags. He’s gentle, affectionate, and has a quiet strength that wins everyone over. Lester is patiently waiting to share his boundless love with a forever family. Are you ready to provide him a forever home? What My Foster Says About Me: Lester has been warming up to his new life in DC, he is a great dog who is learning how to be loved in his home. He can be a bit shy, but with a loving and warm home I am confident that he will warm up quickly and be the perfect pup for someone! Heartworm information: Lester is a truly Lucky Dog. He tested positive for heartworms but has been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. Lester has completed this activity restriction period. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.
