Meet Winter A resilient soul ready to find her homeWinter came to us under heartbreaking circumstances—tied up and left alone. Despite her rough start, she’s settled in beautifully at the shelter and continues to show us just how loving and gentle she truly is. This sweet girl is easy to handle and walks well on leash. She’s affectionate and seeks out connection, happily leaning into people for pets and attention. Her calm and relaxed demeanor makes her a favorite among staff and volunteers. She does prefer her feet not be touched, so a gentle and respectful approach works best. Winter isn’t the most playful pup, but she does show moments of curiosity—especially when she hears a squeaky toy! While she may chase after a toy or inspect it briefly, she’s more interested in human companionship than games. She’s polite when you take toys from her, showing a cooperative and easygoing nature. When it comes to food, Winter prefers to dine in peace. She can be a bit protective during mealtime, especially if she feels rushed or crowded. We recommend feeding her in a quiet, low-traffic area and giving her plenty of space to eat at her own pace. This will help her feel secure and comfortable. Winter has also met other dogs at the shelter. During her introduction with a male dog, she remained calm and curious, even when he brought high energy to the interaction. She corrected his pushy behavior in a healthy way and quickly returned to a relaxed state once he backed off. Because of her calm approach, we recommend a dog-to-dog meeting for any potential adopters with dogs at home. Winter is looking for a family who will respect her boundaries, give her the love and safety she deserves, and let her bloom at her own pace. It’s a 5-day, no-strings-attached, trial adoption period. You can take this pet home to try it out! Interested? Come to the shelter any time during open hours and talk to one of our Customer Care staff!Be sure to check the `shelter information` box on the listing to see if the pet is located at our Fairfax Campus (4500 West Ox Road, Fairfax) or our Lorton Campus (8875 Lorton Road, Lorton).
