My story

This handsome Sheepdog mix is as friendly as they come, greeting everyone he meets (kids included) with a happy tail wag. True to his “gentle giant” nickname, Malcolm is mellow and easygoing in the house and yard, but he also has bursts of joyful energy when it is time to play or head out on an adventure. Malcolm loves being with his people and can feel a little stressed when left alone, so a patient adopter who can give him time to adjust and gradually build his comfort with the crate will help him thrive. He is already crate-trained for meals and settles best with a frozen pup-sicle or stuffed kong to keep him occupied. At night he sleeps loose in the house without any trouble, though he may give a few barks if he hears wildlife outside. This smart boy already knows sit, down, stay, and comes to a loud whistle. He responds well to hand signals, to. If asked to “go out of the kitchen,” he’ll happily understand! Like many tall dogs, he sometimes can’t resist the temptation of a counter, but he’s learning quickly and improving every day. Malcolm is highly food-motivated, which makes training fun and rewarding. He’s wonderful for grooming and will stand politely for a good brushing of his thick, beautiful coat. On walks, Malcolm does best with an easy-walk harness. He is learning to walk calmly beside his person and has shown that with time and consistency, he can adjust even to barking neighborhood dogs. In the yard, he loves romping with dog friends big and small, and he would do well with a confident canine buddy to play with. Malcolm is fully house-trained, travels well in the car, and sprinkles his days with little joys like chasing grasshoppers, playing with a squeaky toy, or retrieving a tennis ball. Best of all, he is happiest when he is by your side, whether it’s a family walk, a backyard hangout, or just soaking up affection on a quiet evening. If you are looking for a loyal, affectionate, and truly beautiful companion who will bring both peace and playfulness into your life, Malcolm is ready to be your new best friend. Malcom is available for a foster-to-adopt arrangement as he completes his heart worm treatments with the Alliance!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Malcolm, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
