Just try to resist his scruffy face and wise eyebrows! Ziggy was rescued as a tiny pup from Puerto Rico and adopted by a family 2.5 years ago. Ziggy was returned to HT and is currently with a foster who describes him as “nearly perfect” and the “best foster dog.” Ziggy is fully housebroken, does not chew on furniture or shoes, is great with kids (currently living with a 9 year old, but goes to parks with humans of all sizes) and other dogs. He likes snuggles, but he’s also comfortable just lying near his human. As a younger pup, Ziggy was very energetic but has grown out of most of it. He still likes to play and gets up to play with his foster sister, but he never pesters her or makes a nuisance of himself. He does best with a backyard to do his business and 2-3 walks a day. In between he’ll gladly sun himself outside or nap near you. Ziggy is a very smart boy, and he’s fine to be left free in the house for a few hours even with another dog. He can be crated, but Ziggy does not do well when left alone all day or crated all day. He gets restless and will search for fun when he gets out, including jumping low fences or trying to escape. But if he feels loved and entertained, he won’t try to run. With his current foster he goes on doggy play dates and he’ll play fetch, chase, and wrestle. At the end of the day, Ziggy will go to sleep around 9:30 or 10 and stay down peacefully until around 7. If you let him, he will nose you awake. If you ignore him, he’ll snooze until you are ready! Ziggy likes to zig zag on a leash and pull, but he generally behaves very well. He has been to dog-friendly restaurants and gladly hung out. His prior family used to take him to dog parks regularly where he ran around and played gleefully. He loves going in the car too! He knows commands and has been working on self-control when he is very excited. He will jump on new people out of excitement, but he doesn’t have any aggression towards people or other dogs. Zig-man does appear to have a dislike or fear of cats – one of the few things he will bark at! Ziggy does not have any guarding issues, and he is working on his food pickiness (he prefers a bit of wet food or broth on top of his dry dog food). He loves treats, especially peanut butter, and has taken to chew bones and bully sticks, and all of these things can be used to train him further. He’s so smart and loveable! Will you give him his furever home?
