My story

Barley is an incredibly cute ball of cottony sweetness that climbs into your heart (and lap) with a wag and a kiss. What isn't clear in these shelter photos is how truly beautiful this tiny dog is with his soft as cotton coat and very kind and loving eyes. When Barley arrived at the dismal and heartbreaking shelter, personnel agreed that he was one of the cutest little guys around with a sweet and loving personality that made you want to hug him close. They marveled at his great temperament and sweet nature after all he had been through in his short life. At just a\1 year old and a tiny 7 lbs (perfect for a snuggly little lap dog), Barley is a great size and weight to accompany his family just about everywhere a well-behaved tiny dog is welcome. A neighborhood walk or an afternoon spent just enjoying each other's company is a perfect day for this little guy with the big and loving personality. Barley is every bit the goofy little guy. He has so much fun playing and interacting with his favorite people. At the same time, he is a happy and well-behaved pup once comfortable in his environment. It's natural for this little guy to express himself with a wagging tail and excited kisses of love. His joy knows no end and his love is all about his favorite people. At this point in Barley's development, he loves virtually everyone be it human or canine. We want to nurture this positive vision of the world by matching Barley to a family that expresses their devotion for him in many different ways. We feel that Barley would be most comfortable with an adult family or one with older kids where voices are softer and the energy is calmer. We feel that Barley will be happiest and most fulfilled with either retirees, an adult family that spends lots of time at home or those that work from a home-based office. This little guy will thrive on the time and attention that this type of lifestyle brings. Barley's new family needs to have the motivation, energy and open heart for a tiny rescue dog. He will require behavioral guidance and tons of love to nurture a positive attitude about the world. In return Barley will be a loyal and loving best friend and the greatest lap dog ever. When this adorable pup falls in love, he falls hard. He gives 100% of himself to his relationships with both his people and his canine companions. Since Barley is just a young dog, he's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show him the way. He has all the potential in the world to be an awesome adult companion. Barley will form firm bonds with his family and learn positive socialization skills through virtual or in-person positive reinforcement Obedience Classes. These classes will make a profound difference in a dog's's ultimate behavior and in his relationship and bonding with his people. It does take time and commitment yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior. Farfel's Rescue feel very strongly that every dog deserves the opportunity for formal, positive reinforcement / force-free training classes that are virtual or in-person. We therefore aren't willing to adopt Barley out to a home that doesn't choose to offer him this training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement / force-free virtual or in-person trainers in your area. Barley has been fully vetted and vaccinated to adhere to Farfel's protocol of only adopting out healthy dogs. He has also been neutered to support Farfel's commitment to a future world where dogs are never euthanized for space. Barley will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Wednesday 9/17/2025. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If you're interested in this sweet, cuddly and fun-loving best friend, please fill out our application form completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Barley, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Barley, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
