Meet Buddy If you’ve ever wished you could adopt the spirit of Buddy the Elf (from the beloved Christmas movie Elf), but in dog form…..then your Christmas miracle has arrived early! Buddy (who coincidentally shares his name with that beloved Christmas Elf) is a big, goofy, clumsy bundle of joy who lives life with the wide-eyed wonder of a toddler discovering maple syrup spaghetti for the first time. He’s curious about everything (yes, everything), and while his coordination hasn’t quite caught up with his enthusiasm, his heart is pure gold. Think: “I just like to smile. Smiling’s my favorite.” That’s Buddy, except he might knock over a lamp while doing it. His backstory reads like a script for a Hallmark Holiday Special as he was found standing in the middle of the road on the east side of Indy, unsure where to go. His foster pulled over her car and opened the door and he jumped in, like a true believer in the magic of human kindness. His previous owner, battling terminal cancer, could no longer care for him properly and made the heartbreaking decision to surrender him so he could find a loving forever home. When he first arrived at his foster’s home, Buddy kept his distance. Now? He bounds toward his foster like a snowball rolling downhill. He’s still figuring out how to operate his limbs (think: adult-sized elf trying to navigate tiny elf-village in the North Pole), but his transformation has been nothing short of magical. He is dog-friendly with female pups (not a fan of male dogs). His foster sister literally sits on him, and he’s cool with. He can be shy at first, but warms up fast with treats (his version of candy canes), and then he’ll bounce around with joy like a reindeer sprinkled with holiday magic. He doesn’t love crates or confinement to a room, but give him a Kong or frozen peanut butter bone and then he’ll entertain himself like a kid confined to a toy store. He is still learning that shoes aren’t chew toys, but is working on it. He loves walks, backyard time, and just wants to be near his person. He’s just looking for someone who will let him sleep in bed with them. So if you believe in the magic of second chances and spontaneous joy, Buddy is waiting to leap into your life (and possibly your lap). The best way to always have Christmas cheer is to adopt Buddy and keep him forever near!
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Buddy, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
