My story

Sparky is a 7-month-old medium-sized mixed breed pup who is still learning that the world isn’t such a scary place. He spent much of his puppyhood in a small room without much exposure to people or new experiences, so he can be very nervous at first. When meeting strangers, Sparky may bark or growl, but with calm, patient introductions he warms up quickly and shows his playful, affectionate side. Once he feels safe, Sparky loves to run around, play, and soak up pets from his favorite people. He’s curious about other dogs, though still a little unsure—he might do best with a confident adult dog to help show him the ropes. Because he can be quite vocal when startled by noises or unfamiliar people, Sparky would do best in a home that isn’t an apartment setting. We don’t yet know how he feels about kids. Sparky is looking for a patient adopter who understands that he needs time and gentle guidance to gain confidence. With positive training, structure, and reassurance, this sweet boy has the potential to blossom into a wonderful companion. Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available dogs in the shelter. (Dogs in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the dog first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a dog for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours. **Holds are not available for puppies under six months, on Saturdays, or during adoption events. -------------------------------------------- All adult dog adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies and kennel cough vaccinations - heartworm test -current parvo/distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -microchip implanted & registered to adopter -treatment of fleas & ticks -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days of adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your pet.
