My story

Meet Penny, a 4-month-old German Shepherd mix who is as affectionate as she is adorable. She’s an expert face-licker, toy collector, and cuddle buddy who is looking for a forever home filled with patience, love, and playtime. Penny can be timid when faced with new people or situations, but with a little time and reassurance she warms up beautifully. When she first met her foster siblings, she wasn’t sure what to think and did a little growling, but within days she was wagging, snuggling, and initiating play. Now, they’re best friends. She loves being near her people, though she’s also happy to keep herself busy by gathering every toy in the house and piling them into “her” bed, which she has decided is the perfect place for all her treasures. Penny is doing very well with her training. She is largely potty trained and sleeps through the night without accidents, though during the day she still needs consistent potty breaks every few hours since she hasn’t learned to ask yet. She’s learning to walk on a leash and feels more confident when walking with one of her foster brothers than when she’s on her own. She also does wonderfully crated at night in the bedroom with her foster family, sleeping quietly without any issues. Daytime crating is still a work in progress, as she gets anxious when left alone, but she eats her meals in her crate and is practicing short, calm stays to build her confidence. Penny has even dipped her paws into pool life and surprised everyone by being a natural, calm swimmer. While she doesn’t seem interested in jumping in on her own, she could likely become a pool dog with time and encouragement. This sweet and sensitive pup would do well in a home with another friendly dog to boost her confidence, but she would also thrive as an only dog with a loving and patient family.
