Matilda, also called Maizy, would do best in a home with a yard, as she will not go potty on a leash. She is a sweet, friendly, and approachable girl who loves her routine and enjoys being close to her person. She squeaks when she’s excited and happy to see you, and she loves to burrow under the covers—snoring in no time once she’s cozy. Her routine is consistent: she is fed twice a day and goes outside to potty right after each meal. If she needs to go in between, she uses the dog door on her own. She puts herself to bed in her crate each night and likes to burrow under her blankets. She enjoys chewing on bones and loves going for walks. Maizy gets along fine with the other dog in her foster home, though they mostly ignore each other. She can be a little timid around large dogs but does well with them once she’s comfortable. She is leash-trained and has been working on basic commands like “sit” and “stay.” She responds well to verbal corrections and complies easily. Her current diet is a mix of canned and kibble—about ¼ cup kibble and ¼ can, fed twice daily. She lives in a multi-level home, uses the dog door independently, and is crate trained. She sleeps in her crate overnight and prefers it. She can go up to 13 hours without needing to eliminate and uses the yard exclusively for pottying. She does not soil her crate. Maizy is housebroken and can be left alone for up to 5 hours without any accidents or destructive behavior. She does not bark when left alone but gets very excited when her foster returns home. She is learning to stay calm and sit upon greeting. She was originally returned due to separation issues, so adopters should expect some adjustment period. However, after four weeks in her current foster home, she has settled down significantly and continues to make great progress. No appointments are necessary and you can come and see us any time we are open. Please go to our website (www.azfriends.org) to fill out a consultation form then come and see us! We do require any family interested in meeting our dogs or cats to fill out a consultation form – this form helps us determine if the dog/cat and the home are a good match, since it is so easy to fall in love with a photo, without knowing the personality of the dog. Once you have filled out the online Adoption Consultation Form, just come in and see us (or come and see us and fill out the consultation form upon arrival)! Please note that ALL dogs and cats are available to the first home that meets the dog or cat that we feel is a good match. In order to help make the best match, we do want all family members (dogs and humans) to meet any potential new family member. Our adoption center hours are: Closed Sunday/Monday; Tuesday 10a-2p, Wednesday 3p-7p, Thursday 3p-7p, Friday 10a-2p, Saturday 10a-4p. We are located at 952 W Melody Avenue in Gilbert (zip code 85233).All animals are altered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, licensed (dogs). Cats tested for FELV/FIV. Dogs tested for Heartworm. All animals are available to the first family that is a good match, and if we have more than one animal who is a good match, there will be a lottery for all matches. Note that families must have come in to our adoption center and spoken with an adoption counselor prior to any lottery (when we have lotteries, they usually occur on Saturday mornings).
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Matilda, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
